March 20, 2008- We all new the Apple iPhone was too good not to share. It looks like Singaporemay be the next lucky ones who get to take advantage of this exciting piece of technology. It appears that SingTel may have won the rights to start distributing the Apple iPhone. Reports are speculating that once the devices becomes available in Singapore, that it will be priced at S$690 (US$496). Of course, there is no official word from SingTel or Apple yet, but itseems to only be a matter of time.

Since the Apple iPhones first introduction into the mobile world, it is estimated that 10,000 handsets have been purchased and been hacked for use in Singapore. Some criticism remains, however, despite the iPhones vast popularity, such as its lack of 3G functionality as well as a slow internet browsing speed. In order to be popular, as well as functional, in Singapore, the iPhone will have to be 3G enabled.

Some research has shown that users may actually be a bit more interested in a cell phones design and brand name rather than its functionality.This is a surprising find, of course, since the whole point of having a mobile phone is to take advantage of its functions. It seems that for some, the point of having a mobile phone is simply to say they have one. From this, it may be reasonable to speculate that being without 3G capabilities may or actually may not hurt the iPhones popularity in Singapore. If released without 3G, this will surely be the hope of SingTel and Apple.

The 2007 Invention of the Year is already making plans to take this year’s award.

On January 20th, Apple is to announce its addition of Lotus Notes eMail to an already extensive list of cutting edge features. This application is supposed to appeal to the business-savvy individual, while still serving the purpose of the ultimate advancement in wireless entertainment.

IBM is also expected to drop its application of Open Office, a similar version of Lotus eMail , on the same day.

PartFoundry has successfully developed an iPhone GPS module that allows jail broken iPhones to get GPS functionality. According to the PartFoundry spokesmen, the software of the GPS module is open source and community based. The iPhone GPS module will be shipping in February of 2008.

It seems like American not only need to keep away made-in-china toys, they also need to sue Chinese companies for copyright infringement. Pictures shown are another “wonderful” iPhone-like black market phone that comes with features and specifications that you won’t believe.

This faked iPhone features a big touch screen (400 x 240 pixels), a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, video player that that supports 16?9 widescreen display, MP3 music player, and Stereo Bluetooth Output (A2DP).

Even, iPhone’s icons are copied 100%. Bravo !

User Centric Inc, a consulting company that specializes in incorporating user experience into design, did a study in comparing the texting experience texting experiences of iPhone owners and non-owners across devices and found out that iPhone owners make more typing errors than owners with QWERTY keyboard.

“When compared to hard-key QWERTY phone owners using their personal phones, iPhone owners’ rate of text entry on the iPhone was equally rapid. However, iPhone owners made more errors during text entry and also left significantly more errors in the completed messages.

While iPhone owners made an average of 5.6 errors/message on their own phone, hard-key QWERTY owners made an average of 2.1 errors/message on their own phone, p < .01. iPhone owners also left an average of 2.6 errors/completed message created on the iPhone compared to an average of 0.8 errors/completed message left by hard-key QWERTY phone owners on their own phone.

Interestingly, when comparing the performance of iPhone owners and novices (non-iPhone owners), there was no significant difference between the number of errors made, p = .21. iPhone owners were faster than non-iPhone owners, of course.

“Despite the correction features available on the iPhone, this data suggests that people who have owned it for a month are still making about the same number of errors as the day they got it,” says Gavin Lew, Managing Director. ”

The Apple’s iPhone will go on sale in Britian on this coming Friday (November 9, 2007). Apple’s exclusively UK partner – O2 predicts that the iPhone will be its fastest selling handset yet. All sounds very exciting, but the price tag will cool you off. With the cheapest deal starting at £899 for an 18-month contract, the Apple’s iPhone is a costly gadget which I am sure HTC’s touch costs a lot less.
