Nokia Self Charging Technology

Nokia planned to develop self-charging mobile phones by harvesting piezoelectric kinetic energy from the movement of the phones. To protect its technology from being stolen, Nokia had filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office back in 2008. The patent application may be viewed here. In the past few years, we had seen solar-powered mobile phones, such as Samsung Blue Earth, with little success. Nokia’s new self-charging technology through movement, and Toshiba’s fuel cells technology might be the answer for energy-hungry smartphones.

Nokia Research Center in Helsinki today shows a new super-fast wireless data transfer concept called “Explore and Share”. The new wireless transfer technology is so fast that it could transfer an entire music album onto a phone in less than 10 seconds. Although Nokia spokesman said the “Explore and Share” technology is based on new radio technology, we suspect that technology behind it is Bluetooth 3.0 because Bluetooth 3.0 is capable of providing the transfer speed that Nokia shows in the demo video.

Nokia N98

Picture above is the leaked photo of Nokia N98, the next generation of Nokia’s most powerful N90 series phones. The rumor said that the N98 has 4-inch LCD touch screen, and it will runs on Symbian 3, the latest Symbian OS that supports multi-touching. Besides that, the phone is said to have a 12-MP digital camera, which could be used as a video recorder to record high-def 720P videos. We will see whether this N98 will be released in the upcoming MWC 2010 or not. The most interesting part of this leaked news is the specs of Nokia N98 are same as Nokia N8-00, another full touchscreen phone that is highly anticipated in MWC 2010. Hopefully, we are going to see the officialy launch of both phones, but we probably will see only either one of these two phones in MWC 2010. I do really hope that N8-00 is the one that gets official launch as it is a lot cooler than N98.

Nokia N8-00

The Nokia N8-00 was a concept but actual working phone that Nokia boosts that it has 12-megapixel digital camera, a 3.5-inch multi-touch LCD screen, HDMI output, and 720P HD video recording capability. Facing strong challenges from iPhone and Google’s Android that are eating Nokia’s market share, it is speculated that Nokia might decide to move N8-00 to production line. The Nokia N8-00 is powered by Symbian 3, the latest Symbian OS with multi-touching and multi-tasking features. We will see whether Nokia announce the official release date of N8-00 in the upcoming WMC2010 or not. If Nokia’s management team is smart enough to realize that they don’t have a good product to answer the challenges of iPhone and Google’s Android, they should move this multi-touch phone quick!
