If you are a mobile software developer, and would like design a program that runs on all the mobile OS in the market, you better kill yourself before you start coding. Today, Samsung announced another new “open-source” mobile platform called “bada”. I personally have lost count how many mobile operating system out there in the market, and this OS release from Samsung doesn’t seem like a big breakthrough, although Samsung promises that the “bada” OS will provide simple and intuitive user experiences with innovative visual design.

Bada will be launched in December 2009 and the first bada-powered phone will be available in the first half of 2010. The SDK for the OS will be available soon. For more information, please check bada.com.

Besides launching LG Chocolate Touch, and BlackBerry Curve 8530, Verizon Wireless today also unearthed the Samsung Convoy, a rugged Push-to-Talk phone that is built to meet military specifications to withstand the harshest of elements. The Samsung Convoy looks just like one of those ugly Nextel phones that are designed for on-field workers. The Convoy features a long battery life, Push to Talk capabilities that leverage Verizon Wireless’ Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A), VZ navigator (GPS navigation), 2-MP digital camera, and stereo speaker.

The Samsung Convoy will be available Nov. 15 for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement with Verizon Wireless.

Affordable local mobile phone carrier, MetroPCS, today launched the first smartphone of the carrier – Samsung Code, also known as Samsung SCH-i220. It is kind of disappointing to learn that the Samsung Code runs on Windows 6.1 operating system, instead of the latest Windows 6.5 operating system. MetroPCS doesn’t mention whether the Samsung Code is upgradeable to Windows 6.5 or not, we doubt it does.

The Samsung Code feature a 2-megapixel digital camera, QWERTY keyboard, Stereo Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, full Internet browser, and a memory expansion slot that supports up to 32GB. Like other Windows phones, the Samsung Code is equipped with Microsoft applications, including contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, voice recorder and Windows Live. It supports ActiveSync technology for easy synchronization with PC and Microsoft Exchange Server.

“Samsung Mobile is excited to launch its first Windows Mobile® 6.1 powered smartphone to MetroPCS customers,” said Paul Golden, chief marketing officer of Samsung Telecommunications America. “The Samsung Code gives users the ability to balance work and personal communication with a variety of applications and features.”

MetroPCS doesn’t mention its pricing. What we know is customer could add $50 rate plan to get unlimited talk, text and data, including emails.

Sprint Nextel, the 3rd largest carrier by subscriber in United States, today announced its first Android phone – Samsung Moment. The release of Samsung Moment shows that Google’s Android operating system is gaining a lot of momentum as more and more carriers are willing to carrier Android-powered phones. The first carrier in the United States that offered Android-powered phone was T-Mobile. Verizon Wireless also recently announced the partnership with Google.

Samsung Moment is full touchscreen phone with a big 3.2-inch AMOLED screen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Samsung Moment looks pretty much just like T-Mobile’s HTC Magic, which is also an Android-powered phone. Features of the Moment phone include a 3.2-megapixel digital camera, Stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a microSD memory expansion slot that supports up to 16GB.

“With a full QWERTY keyboard, Samsung Moment allows customers to easily access the thousands of applications available in the Android Market,” said Kevin Packingham, Sprint’s senior vice president of product development. “This is the second Android product that will be available from Sprint this holiday season.”

The Samsung Moment will be sold for $180 with a two-year contract, inline with T-Mobile’s HTC Magic which is currently sold for $179 also with two-year contract.

Sprint today announced that they have successfully landed Samsung Instinct HD, a High Definition touch screen phone from Samsung. The new Samsung Instinct HD features an awesome 5-megapixel digital camera, TV-output for watching high-definition videos, and MP3 music player.

Besides that, the Instinct HD also has 3G capability, memory expansion slot, full internet browsing capability with Opera Mobile 9.7 browser, Wi-Fi, and Stereo Bluetooth. It also supports Sprint TV and Sprint Music Store for unlimited TV programs and Music access.

The Samsung Instinct HD is available starting today for $250 with two-year contract, a little bit too high if compared to the iPhone 3G S that starts with only $199. We will see how the struggling carrier, Sprint Nextel, is going to get customers to pay $250 for the Samsung Instinct HD phone.

Samsung’s first Android powered phone, Samsung Galaxy, now has a little brother which is greener called Samsung Galaxy Lite. The pictures of Galaxy Lite is leaked in the Internet. According to the leaked source, the Galaxy Lite phone has 3.2-megapixel digital camera, AMOLED touch screen (size unkown), 1GB of internal memory storage, and the most importantly its eye-catching green color design.

Verizon Wireless today announced two brand new phones for the fall session. They are Samsung Rogue and Samsung Intensity, which both have a full QWERTY keyboard, targeting heavy texters and email users. The Samsung Rogue is available today for $99.99 after $100.00 mail-in rebate with two-year contract agreement, while the Samsung Intensity is sold for $29.99 after a $50.00 mail-in rebate with two-year contract agreement also.

Samsung Rogue
The Samsung Rogue is a sleek messaging phone with a full touch display that provides an optimized messaging experience with a horizontal slide-out, four-row QWERTY keyboard, threaded messaging and one-touch access to popular social networking widgets, including Facebook®, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube and Photobucket. The new V CAST Video on Demand plan replaces the $15.00 V CAST VPak. These changes will not impact existing customers.
