March 25, 2008 – Australian operator Hervey Bay’s Buzz Broadband was rumored to be Australia’s first WiMAZ operator, but unfortunately they have closed up shop already. The network turned out to be less than suitable for the kind of service the operator wanted to provide users. It has even been called disastrous and a miserable failure. Apparently, when the service was being tested, non-line of sight performance was only available up to 2 km from the base station. Also, performance indoors became non existent at only 400 m. With latency reaching only as high as 1000 ms, hoped for applications were not an option.
