KDDI and Sharp are ready to Launch Solar-powered Phone in June

KDDI is set to launch a solar-powered cellular phone in Japan sometimes in the summer. The picture shown above is the solar-powered concept phone that will be developed by Sharp. According to KDDI, the phone will feature a big solar panel, which could provide up to 1 minute of talk time or 2 hours of standby time for 10 minutes of sunlight. KDDI is confident that this still unnamed solar-powered phone will on sales by June of 2009.

Lirpa 100-F coin operated phone

Do you still remember the ancient coin-operated telephone that charges dimes per call? Now, we have cell phone that is operated by coins too. Picture shown above is a real coin operated cell phone, named 100-F and manufactured by a new Latvian manufacturer called Lirpa (like me, you probably think it is manufactured by a Chinese company). If you don’t have coins, no problem, the phone takes credit cards too. The phone will be available in UK pretty soon, and the UK-version of 100-F is going to have £1 coin slot for calls and a 10p slot for texts.

LG Banter Messaging Phone Is Available at U.S. Cellular

U.S. Cellular officially announces LG Banter phone today. The LG Banter is a sibling of LG Rumor 2, offered by Sprint Nextel. Like the Rumor 2, LG Banter also has a full QWERTY keyboard that slide out from the side. The phone features a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, MP3 music player, Video Player, and Stereo Bluetooth connectivity.

Korean cell phone maker, SK, announced a brand new slider phone, Ufit WG-S608, in Taiwan yesterday. The Ufit WG-S608 phone has two SIM card slots, supports 3G + GSM network. Features of the phone include a built-in 3.0-megapixel digital camera, MP3 music player, microSD memory expansion slot that supports up to 4GB, USB connector, FM Radio, and 128MB of internal memory. Thanks to 3G capability, the S608 allows users to make video conferencing calls, and browse Internet at close-to-broadband speed.

Two senators, Olympia Snowe and Bill Nelson, introduced the m-SPAM Act last week, which give FCC (Federal Communications Commission and Federal Trade Commission) more authority to regular SMS SPAM, and prohibit sending commercial text messages to wireless number listed on the Do Not Call registry.

The analyst got the conclusion referring to the company’s source from NAND memory industries. Previously we had seen the solar-powered phones from Samsung (Samsung Blue Earth) and ZTE (ZTE Coral-200), now we have Scosche Bluetooth speakerphone powered by an integrated solar panel and lithium ion rechargeable. Scosche named the speakerphone solChat. solChat has very simple design, featuring only three buttons – volume up, volume down and the answer/hang-up multifunction button. solChat comes shipped with a USB charging cable and a car adaptor that could be used to charge the solChat if the speakerphone doesn’t get enough sunlight.

Our friends at FCC accidentally leaked several photos of Motorola MOTO QA4. According to the leaked source, the MOTO QA4 has a built-in 5.0-megapixel digital camera, and a 2.8-inch TFT touchscreen. The QA4 phone is equipped with Stereo Bluetooth, A-GPS (GPS receiver), MP3 music player, Widget, Google Search, and YouTube player. The phone supports CDMA2000 1X/CDMA2000 1X EV-D version of 3G network.
