With all the talk about the environment lately, it is no surprise that cellular phone companies are doing their part now as well. Some of the biggest names that have made their way onto the scene in the latest go green craze are Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia, Apple and Motorola. Greenpeace has been instructing manufacturers that in order to help the environment, companies should stop using hazardous materials and to collect their products after they are used up for recycling. The only problem has been that due to the materials that cellular phones are made of, there was no way to safely recycle them once they had become obsolete.

The number one cell phone company in the race to be more “green” is Sony Ericsson. They are making big strides in recycling, working very hard to get all their cell phone to a recyclable state at the end of their life with the user. However, there is improvement that could be made in education of the users on how to recycle their obsolete cellular phones.

Samsung is number two, right behind Sony Ericsson. They are now introducing cellular phones free from handful materials such as PVC plastic. They also do a good job of providing their information to their users.

Nokia, came in eighth in the go green race, however. Apple also came in very low on the pole, but are still making strides to become more eco-friendly. Motorola sadly fell to the bottom of the list. However they do have volunteer takeback and recycling centers in 57 countries… so they are definitely not sitting idly by doing nothing.
