Hop-on Introduces a Disposable Cell Phone
Filed under Wireless Industry News

April 14, 2008- Although a disposable cell phone might not be something that everyone wants to carry around with them everywhere for their casual calling during the day, it might be a very interesting option for an emergency call when no other option is available. The US-manufacturer “Hop-on” certainly seems to think so. Their opinion is that this might be an option for users to keep in the glove box of their car or maybe in the bottom of their purse. If you were caught somewhere without your phone or it is broken, misplaced, the battery dies or it becomes otherwise unusable, a disposable cell phone stashed away somewhere might come in rather handy. With an affordable price of only $20, who can say no to the added safety of having a spare?
Hop-on has already sent out 10,000 of these disposable cell phones to an unnamed European distributor so they can being their testing. The test versions of these phones do not have a screen and are preset with shortcut quick-dial key programmed to make calls to emergency services. The disposable phone is dualband and uses a Texas Instruments chipset. Although we do not the final price once the phone is ready for distribution or exactly when it will be available, we are very excited about this new innovation in cell phones that may very well be the wave of the future.
