The HTC Mogul (VX6800) is a pocket pc cellular phone that runs on Windows Mobile for Pocket PCs 6.0 operating system and a QUALCOMM MSM7500, 384 MHz processor. The Mogul PDA phone is designed to replace its ancestor, HTC PPC-6700/XV-6700 PDA phone that was offered by Sprint previously. Since the HTC Mogul is powered by Windows Mobile operating system, it comes preloaded with full suite of office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer). Besides that, your familiar Windows Media player is also preloaded in the VX6800 phone.
Other features include Wi-Fi support, 2.0-MegaPixel digital camera and video recorder, QWERTY keyboard, and Stereo Bluetooth output. However, the major disappointment over the HTC Mogul PDA is it doesn’t have built-in GPS navigation system.

how much does this phone cost
Does anyone know if this phone has handwriting recognition? Or is it just keyboard input?
I’m considering upgrading from the palm treo (windows version) to the vx 6800, any advice?
I just got my Mogul a few days ago. I love it, I returned my upstage and upgraded to the Mogul. Yes the Mogul does have handwriting recognition. Also I heard that sometime in the first quarter of 2008 there will be a software update that will allow GPS navigation. I guess the hardware is there just that the software does not support it yet. Also I recommend going to the HTC website and updating and checking your ROM version as soon as you get the phone. When I first got the phone I tried uploading about 500MB of MP3s through Windows Media Player and it was taking about 5 minutes per song, I upgraded the phone software and now it takes under a minute per song.
Just my two cents.
Yes it does have handwritting recognition and the cost is 299 w/2 year agreement. If you log onto http://www.sprint.com/sero and use

I have this phone from Verizon and it works like a champ. It has some many features that you cannot go wrong. Wifi and EVDO speeds are impressive. The large touch screen is awesome especially with touchscreen software that make navigation a snap. The voice dialing is very accurate. The Bluetooth comes with A2DP support for stereo. I just bought slingbox and watch my TV off of it when traveling. I use it as camera, mp3 player, TV, and phone. This is a great phone/PDA!
This phone is a rockin device. I love the quick WiFi and EVDO like Sam has stated and the touchscreen is pretty accurate too. Bluetooth has worked flawlessly for me so far and the third party programs out there are very abundant. I love it.
Just got my phone/PDA from Verizon.. upgraded from a MotoQ Phone. It’s an awesome phone.. still learning though. Does anyone know where there are tips, tricks or shortcuts on using the phone. Just want to get the best use from it.
Also is there a way to play either the Media player or my Slingbox to a Bluetooth hands-free earpiece. It seems to only play to the speakers or my Jabra bluetooth headphones. With my Qphone I could listen to my Slingbox through my Motorola H700 earpiece answer a phone call then automatically go back to the Slingbox.
One other thing, everytime I reboot, my keybd input goes back to the Keyboard even though I have it set to Block Recognizer. I have to remember to actually choose Block Recognizer when I input char. fm the screen.
Does anyone know if this phone has handwriting recognition? Or is it just keyboard input?
It has both, sorry I’m a little late though.
how does the vx6800 compare to the iPhone
I have had this phone (HTC mogul) for over several months now. I would like to say I love this phone. As Steve stated above, it is recommended that you get the latest ROM. Some advantages I have noticed with this is phone is that there is plenty of “free” software for windows mobile 6. You never have to buy another ring tone, just use a wma file. You can watch DVDs (by using a converted), you can watch live TV, you can surf the web a high speeds, change your theme daily, use powerpoint/word/excel, play NES/SNES/GameBoy (using emulator), check email, outlook…ect. It is basically a mini windows computer.
Minor drawbacks:
1. No MMS (ie picture messaging) for sprint users. But guess what, you can use verizon wireless software on sprint for MMS. It takes a little effort.
2. It states above that the phone has Video calling? My phone doesn’t!
I just got the VX6800 from Verizon about 2 weeks ago. It is my first smart phone and even though I am not a complete idtiot on the computer I have to say the idea of another Windows operating system, and dealing with crappy Vista as we type, I thought it could be just a pain in my rear.
Not at all. Very easy to use. I’ve played around with some 3rd party software. I did come across a real nice hand writing recognition ap much better then the Windows one. Caligrapher, I think, free to try and maybe 20 bucks to buy. I may purchase it. Makes a good thing better.
I have also played around with Opera, and a few video players that have run nicely. I can’t say I have had a problem with the operating system at all.
The phone works well. This device is not as awkward as other smartphones, but it still isn’t just a phone so it does not feel like “just a phone”. So if the ear peice is not just right it can be a little hard to hear, or if the mic a little far from the mouth you will sound overly quiet to people on the other end. No biggie at all.
In fact, I have found the speaker phone almost easier to use/understand on both ends of the line in certain situations where trying to juggle the phone and do other crap like drive, eat, smoke, and flick off the car next to you. I have also used the Motorola HS850 Bluetooth headset with no problem. Probably the best idea when you have busy hands and an anger problem.
I have also just started messing around with Iskoot (Skype) and can say it is a step down from running Skype on a computer. I had a solid Wifi connection and it was choppy.
Other than that, I am addicted to Vegas style solitare and enjoying the phone.
Does the VX6800 have calendar, task,to do list…etc capabilities like palm smart phones?
to 24,
yes, it does.
yea I bought this fone(HTC Mogul) a few months after it came out and I gotta say I Love it! I had crappy fones in the past..LGs…Razrs…but when I got this one I just couldn’t get anough of it…
but…im still tryin to figure out how to use web vids…like watchin YouTube vids anw whatnot on it…and how to download diff aps for it…
if yall have any ideas on how, would yall let me kno?
Purchased this phone about one week ago after two years with a Treo 700w.
I like the undated Windows product and enjoy the enhanced functionality of this device. One major challenge however; the battery life is extremely short – usually no more than 10 to 12 hours. I am not a heavy user; no more than 30 minutes per day on the phone and only minimal e-mail and internet access. I’ve complained to Verizon and a second battery has been sent. Two other people at my place of employment received their vx6800s at the same time – and they too are experiencing limited battery life. Are my expectations too high? I am accustomed to getting two or three days from a single charge.
I just bought the mogul two weeks ago. I have found this device very handy for my business and personal needs. I have used the handwritten transcriber and its pretty nice. Love this device and would recommend to anyone who needs access to their emails, microsoft, etc.. at their fingertips.
ive had mine for about a month now. i love this phone. it is worth the money, i ue to have the Moto Q. i love the free apps, and the fact that i can do almost everything i do at home on the road. if you have this phon i would great sdvise goin to ppcgeeks, they have alot of help for people with a number of things.
o btw im on alltel, much better than the blackberry. =P
I had the Samsung SCH I760 and it was a well made phone… just kind of ugly. The processor was great from what my friend sad. Then I got the xv6800 (Verizon) and I used the same program to run movies, witch was (media player TCPMP) (converter DvixEncoder) and it is all lagie on the XV6800. I tried lowering and raising the quality, and it didn’t work. Any thoughts for a noob in PDAs?
Great phone, I’ve had it for a month now. One problem I’ve found is that even with a 6GB chip it only registers as 1.6GB. I tried several different chips and got the same result on each. Several people have mentioned hand writing recognition but I haven’t found it. Any help on either problem?
how does the syncing work? what program does it sync to? as in which program do i use on the computer to look at for calendar and what not?
Paul – the phone will only take a max of a 4GB chip – I have the 2GB and 4 GB and they perform well. The hand writing recognition is one of the options of how you enter text when you tap on the logo at the bottom.
Does this phone have an IR port as on Verizon’s site it doesn’t list it having Infra Red. As I run software that comunicates vis IR this is an important feature.
In activesync, how do you save an mp3 file in the ring folder?
To save a mp3 in the ringtone folder go to explore in activesync then my windows based mobile device then my documents then my ringtones and save there i think…not looking at activesync so this is the best i could remember.
Have had this phone for only a week. Not able to access the internet-error 67. Sprint re-provisioned the phone and still no internet. Anyone else have this problem or know of a fix? thanks
mary k I also had this problem when I first got my phone but all I did was call sprint and told them I was having a problem and now it works perfectly. I hope this helps
Thanks Jason. Yes, called Sprint back, they opened a ticket with their I.T department. It works great now. Phone is great. email, web is fantastic. Sprint had this corrected within 24 hours. awesome.
i just got the mogul and its cool and all but how can u get ringtones?
I hate this phone and here are some of the reasons:
– While the phone is recharging notifications, including alarms don’t function. I used to use other phones and an HP Pocket PC with the Windows OS as a dependable alarm clock. When I unplug this phone in the morning, I get all of the notifications I should have gotten earlier while the phone was charging.
– The battery life is nowhere near as advertised. With little or no use, this phone frequently dies in the late afternoon.
– The phone likes to call the last entry in the phone history. It has made several calls in a row this way to the same number. To prevent this, I have to call my home landline after each call to keep from having whatever the phone can hear from the nightstand, my pocket, my desk, ec. going into the voice mail of clients, vendors, etc. I also use the lock/unlock feature, but surprisingly, I still find the phone unlocked when I am sure I locked it. My headset button is able to trigger calls even when the phone is locked. If you value your privacy, you won’t value this phone.
– I frequently find the phone on and in some strange place within its functionality. No…the exterior buttons don’t account for all of this, especially when the phone was locked.
– The voice speed dial is primitive at best. If there is any background noise at all, the phone can’t hear. It gets similar names mixed up/down and proceeds to connect before I can cancel the call. I can’t use it hands free while driving period, even with a headset. I am required to record a voice tag for each name I want to voice dial. This phone can’t pronounce or recognize typed names on its own. I have had previous free phones that did and did it well.
– This is the third brand new instance of this phone that Verizon has given me to correct these problems, but the results are the same. Only the second new instance had an unbelievably terrible bluetooth connection with my motorola headset that had crystal clear sound on the first and third instance, even with the headset only a few inches away from the phone.
– Obviously many of the problems are exacerbated by the Windows OS, as I had many of the same problems with two (2) Palm Treo 700WX phones which made many more calls on their own. As my HP IPAQ pocket PC that has an earlier version of the Windows OS has worked well (though not perfectly) the mix of cell phone and Windows OS are also a major culprit, or the person who mixed them is a major culprit, or all of the above.
– Etc. ad nauseum. Don’t waste your money, time, or PRIVACY, as I doubt seriously whoever designed and/or manufactured this phone put it to any serious testing in real life before putting it on the market.
– The only plus factor here is that Verizon has actually replaced this vx6800 phone twice and the Palm Treo 700 WX once within 6 months, free of charge. It did take a tremendous number of complaints, aggravation, time, and serious invasions of my privacy to get Verizon to do so.
– I recommend going to a Verizon store versus contacting customer or technical support. Don’t call Jessica Sizer.
– Been there done that…still doing that…still paying the price.
I got the VX6800 from Verizon 1 week ago. I love the phone and all the features. I mainly purchased this phone because it came with Windows Mobile, Qwerty, & WiFi. The internet is great to surf with OperaMini. The only problem I have is the Battery life. So far I’ve notice the battery last longer when you turn OFF the wifi. I’m not a big fan of surfing the web in any phone (including the iphone). I don’t even have the data plan. If I need to go online with the phone, I just connect at home or wherever I find a free wifi connection.

You are right…You won’t get notifications if the phone is charging. You should be able to solve that with the settings. You can download a free alarm software . I will try it.
Anybody else getting charged by Verizon when syncing with you PC using a USB cable?
i currently have the KRAZR and i am not entirely thrilled. i text so the QWERTY keyboard is a dream come true. i am 13 and i was wondering if this phone is for me. i want it, but i don’t know if 13 is too young or whatever. Please help, my KRAZR is falling apart and i need a new phone, thx everyone! : )
I’m thinking of upgrading from a 2002 cellphone to this. I’m looking for phone with benefits, like file reading, gps nav etc.
My question is: To use the 802.1 WiFi do I need to have a verizon data plan? I want to be able to us my dsl router at home and use the web, or use a public hot spot. I don’t want to pay extra for a ‘data plan’.
Thank you an advance.
Danny G – no you do not. there is a switch to turn on for wifi on the left hand side.
I have the Verizon model and I am very pleased with the device overall. I got rid of my Dell Axim PDA and my iPod, replaced my simple cell phone all by upgrading to the vx6800. I used Verizon’s data service for about a month before I opted to use WiFi and save the money I was spending on the data service. Battery life has been good, but I have to admit I am very familar power consumption of the Pocket PC and Windows Mobile OS. The camera is not very good, but then again I use an expensive digital SLR for real photography. With a 4Gb transflash card I have lots of music, ebooks and PDFs to listen to and read. I even rotate in and out newly released DVD movies after converting them to play on the vx6800. Again, overall very pleased.
