User Reviews

  1. Marco Says:

It’s a nce phone but compare to Sem w960 and Iphone it doesn’t have Wi Fi.

  2. Robyn Young Says:

Fantastic phone, have always had sony ericssons as i liked their software but getting used to the LG software was pretty easy, takes the most amazing quality photos, even the small videocall camera is good. Once you get the hang of the touch screen its no bother, the handwriting software is a bit of a gimmick and quite labourious as it doesn’t recognise the text very easily. Only real downside is the lack of a lens cover and at the moment I cant find a suitable case and one other small niggle is no voice activated calls which is a nuisance as I use a handsfree bluetooth device when driving so cant make calls without touching the phone.

  3. MadRussian Says:

By far the best phone i have ever owned.Who needs WiFi in Europe? HDSPA is much better and don’t forget 3G.

  4. P4ukay Says:

Had this phone 4 a week and this is by far the best phone on the market as i work at p4u! I-phone? I-phone who ha ha

  5. LG user Says:

Previously always had a Samsung but I just couldn’t wait for their touch screen phone which still doesn’t have a release date, so got this beauty of a viewty! It’s fantastic, had it for almost 3 weeks now and no complaints except that I wish they would hurry up and offer some decent leather protection cases, I’m always scared of dropping it or scratching the casing. No real need for WIFI since the 3G+ is exceptional and on the Three network you actually get bundles of free things online without having to worry about an internet add-on package. Even get free X factor videos, lol, amongst news, weather… Great phone, please hurry up with a case though!!!!

  6. Martin Says:

Had this phone for a week now and to be honest I struggle to fault it. Some of the points made in some of the reviews I’ve read were valid and others not so. My main gripe, considering this is a CAMERA phone, is that there is no lens cover. So the great pictures this phone can take are potentially spoilt by a fingerprint or worse, a scratch on the lens. The software CD that came with mine is useless, missing & corrupt files galore. Other than that, I really like the phone. The touch screen is good when you’ve got used to it, as good as any PDA, mobile, satnav screen I’ve used, certainly no worse. The media side of things is good also. The MP3 player, radio, camera, video camera, file viewer, very good. I know there’s no WiFi, but that doesn’t bother me, I can still send and receive email and, all be it slowly, browse the web. Oh and it works well as a phone also. Not nowhere near enough niggles to make it a bad phone, on the contrary, its a very very good phone, but just not quite perfect. There’s not another phone on the market today that I’d rather have bought.

  7. Joe Says:

Iv got to honestly say thisn is the est phone iv ever had and im had many believe me, i was onriginally going to get the sony ericsson K850i but then saw this and tried out and i fell in love, the phones touch screen is great i love it, the only thing i can say that is bad about this phone is the camera, it doesnt seem 5mp to me as a had the sony ericsson k800i before this one and that had a 3.2mp camera and i cannot see much of a differnce in quality. but still id rather no other phone right now.

  8. Angelina Says:

I am thinking of getting this phone.
You can get a case for it at mobilefun.co.uk a crystal clear one for £5, they have others too. Hope this helps those of you who have had trouble finding a case for it. :-)

  9. its a beauty Says:

if you go on ebay guys you can get cases for the lg viewty.
im using a cloth one for a nokia n95 in black with silver block pattern on it. fits lovely

great phone and i say that after having spent 1 week with the not so great iphone…..what a load of hype for nothing.
this is a great phone that seems to work really well and i can actually type faster on this than my old n95.
    get one ….
    wingy999

  10. I want this viewty beauty but.... Says:

Can anyone recommend me some sites for downloading good games and applications (preferably for free), though this may seem like a minor issue it would make a great deal of difference between me giving up my N95 and getting this or not.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Breminator Says:

How expandable is the memory, will the viewty support sdhc and thus be expandable up to 32GB (or atleast support the current 8GB cards). This is vital for me, otherwise I will stick with my N95.

Also what is the availability of free games and other applications.

Thanks to anyone that answers this.

  12. I hate russians + hippies Says:

this is the best phone EVER! the iPhone cannot compare to this! the lg viewty can take pictures in pitch black whith amazing quality.

  13. stasys Says:

the lg viewty says it can have up to 2GB of mempry (micro sd card) but i’ve tried it with my 16GB memory card and it works fine its just the memory manager thing cannot record the amount of space used on the memory card which is not a big deal because you can always connect it to your computer and get an accurate reading there. this phone is actually brilliant

  14. Kelly Says:

totally been unable to decide on a fne to get but read great reviews and think i am going to order this tonite x i just relly wish someone would find out if games are available for times of boredom as i will miss something to pass the time in boring classes in school x i’ll update on how i get on with the beauty they call the viewty !! x

  15. Big Dave Says:

Good phone however i question the 5M camera. The K800i was a lot lot better!!!!

  16. Ed Says:

I’ve had the lg viewty for a couple of days now, and I am very happy with it, however, would like to know if anyone has tried connecting it to a Mac?
Any advice would be really appreciated

  17. Jay Says:

An amazing phone i fully agree with you all. i’ve had it a week and ive scratched it already could really do with a holder like the one the prada phone came with. The crystal one that’s available is quite bulky and detracts from the look of the phone. dissapointed with the cd software and also i tend to like an externally accesible micro sd slot. to quickly zip my photo’s and files onto my coputer i have to take the battery out and power down :( however no biggie.

  18. install the third-party software on KU990 Says:

hi, does anyone know how to install the third-party software in the LG KU990? tkx

  19. Soul Says:

Great Phone, Kncks spots off the Iphone!

  20. stasys Says:

ye games are obviously available to download from various sites on the web browser or there are a few sites on the internet but its been a pain trying to transfer them and getting them to work via the software provided. the nokia pc suite is much easier to use but o well i still love this phone |thissssssss - ——————————————————————————————————————————- much|

  21. Les Ashmore Says:

Fantastic Phone, I had an iphone and hated it, one or two nice things but as the vast majority of communication is via text, the iphone is very sadly lacking in that area, you cannot forward a text, you cannot save a text, No 3G, No Blutooth connections except to ear phones, VERY Expensive, The viewty is all there, and what is the use of wifi you only connect at home and then you have your computer so I got rid after 2 weeks and got my money back.

  22. RufusDeRed Says:

I upgraded to this phone about two weeks ago, and think it’s generally pretty good.

If you want to install 3rd party software on this phone, I think it has to be Java-based. I’ve read (in my travels on the net) that this phone is using a proprietary LG operating system, which has a flash (eg shockwave flash) GUI.

This fits with my experience so far. You can’t find diddley on the internet with specific info on the OS for this phone - so I think the LG special OS makes a lot of sense.

Gmail works fine via a browser (no, REALLY, it’s fine.) although it would have been nice if the Gmail java application worked on this phone.

The Gmaps java application, however, DOES work fine on this phone… and since this beastie is on a third generation network, it p*sses all over the iPhone, which took forever to load up a Gmap via GPRS. (Note: if you’re playing with the iPhone in-store, the speeds you’re seeing are due to WLAN - not any phone carriers network).

All in all, a pretty good phone.

    My only gripes are
    (1) Wish the landscape keyboard was selectable in all text-entry modes.
    (2) Wish it was easier to get 3rd party apps installed on the phone.
    (3) WISH SOMEONE WOULD SAY IF IT WAS A 16GB SD OR A 16GB SDHC CARD THEY ARE USING IN THE PHONE. This beastie is only supposed to take SD cards, not SDHC… but 16 GB in a SD sounds a bit… well… a bit like crazy talk.

  23. EAZI~D Says:

hi all, ive had this phone for bang on aweek and it has to b said, THIS PHONE IS AMAZING but………..and a big but for me, its been so hard to find any 3rd party apps for it, for some reason gmaps doesnt work and neither does ebuddy beta.

  24. Eazi-D Says:

best fone yet but gutted in the lack of (proper) games for it which use the touch screen abillity. and 3rd party apps. for some reason gmaps doesnt work and neither does ebuddy beta. my d600 mem card also works with it, but am starting to sway towards the SE K850i, the only thing about the viewty thats stopping me getting the K850i is the AMAZING cam/video. but its a must buy for xmas.

  25. EE Says:

Anyone know how i can get a replacement viewty back cover as mine has broken..

  26. Ainsy Says:

    @EE
Have you managed to find any1 that sells the battery cover as ive lost mine and need to find one,
    Eb shaun.ainsy@gmail.com

  27. pebbles Says:

yeah, help if you know where to get battery covers, mines been lost and i dont know how or where. need a new one!! if you find out email me at pull.the.trigger_x@Hotmail.co.uk
    much appreciated! :)

  28. jj Says:

cant find any compatible games - really annoying as my phone didn’t come with any

  29. NGC Says:

Why did they leave out the GPS?

  30. software on LG viewty SUCKS! Says:

I’ve bough one of this phones and the software not only sucks. eg. mp3 navigation is chunk and useless, no amplifier, etc.. some of the programmes from the suites that comes with the phone are from 2003!! some 2006! they clearly didn’t bother to invest on software and functionality.. this is more of a gimmick on look.. it would be nice - if LG wish to be taken seriously in the mobile phone field - they they provide a serious update for the software, something that actually works and efficient. Also, they should really update the firmware and redesign the interface and functionality especially for the mp3 manager and add an amplifier!! Otherwise, in the long run they don’t stand a chance agaist Sony Erickson, Nokia and let alone iPhone!!!

A word of advise for LG - if they listen to customer.. do they?

  31. lesley Says:

love the phone but cant find a way to save sms to pc, in fact pc suite really naff.

  32. Kenny F Says:

This is a superb phone, I’ve been a nokia user for 10 years but decided to get the viewty and I’m glad I did. The best bits for me are as follows.

Dedicated phone lock button is really handy.

Touch screen means the texting keypad is massive.

    Excellent alarm clock settings.

    Simple to navigate menus.

Superb camera, just like using a proper digital camera.

    Massive screen for viewing pictures.

Its a must have gadget, all my friends want one.

  33. Sam Says:

I was a die hard sony ericsson fan but decided to try something different. LG does take time to get use to and there are still a few things that need to be improved like organisation of MP3 files, picture files taken end up all over place sometimes and but all in all its a great upgrade to go for. Fanstastic camera, with a beautiful 3″ screen which reminds me why I love it so much.

Handwriting recognition is clumsy at times but love the handset lock features, clock and drag and dropping photos with my finger. After an hour of messing around - you too can fall in love with it…..you must go get it…..!!!

  34. James Says:

spoke to an lg rep yesturday and he says in feb 2008 a silver viewty is coming out which is compatible with hdsd cards so will be able to hold up to 32g memory. also get opera mini, its a much better browser

  35. Hanna Says:

I Am Getting The LG Viewty Tommorow, I Have Heard That The Battery Life Isn’t Very Good? But Is This Due To The Actuall Battery Or The Initial Charge?
Also, Is The Screen Protector You Get In The Box Any Good Or Do You Recomend Buying A Better One.

  36. Lee Says:

For the people who r havin trouble findin a replacement back plate i have rang LG themselves n they told me they wont have any in till the new yr so my guess is that if LG dont have ne nowere else will have them yet

  37. Illy Says:

Can anyone give me a link or something relating to this ‘new’ viewty that will be out in 2008.

  38. Joanne Says:

I’m also having trouble finding a replacement back for the phone! tried all major shops and contacted LG themselves without any luck. Has anyone managed to get their hands on one? or know where i can get one from?
May have to wait till new year then as suggested by Lee! Long wait tho i’ve been everywhere this week!!

  39. aer Says:

Is there a phone lock on the Viewty? I mean a time out which requires the user to input a pin code to activate the phone/menus etc, similar to the SPV C500> range of mobiles?

The benefit of this is that of the phone is lost or stolen, it cant be used.

  40. Nick Says:

    To Robyn Young
I have found that if you own an ipod video/classic 30gb or 60gb or 80gb the Viewty will happily fit inside the case with the stylus:D But i agree with you on the handwriting, it’s horrid. It won’t understand anything i type but i love the qwerty keyboard i wish they could implement it on other text imput things:| I guess it’ll be in the next firmware update, so easy to change and all.

    To every1 else
I can highly recommened this phone, i also own a k850i, cybershot cst-200 and an iphone. The viwety far out does the k850 and the same with the iphone, but i already have an ipod so the iphone is useless to me. But obviously the cybershot is a better camera then the viewty:P But the mobility of the viewty and the all in one features makes the viwety a whole lot better then the cybershot:D

    - I have found a way, first you need to go to Settings > Connectivity > USB Connection Mode > Mass Storage.
Then plug your KU990 into your mac via the USB cable and it should show up as an extra drive.
    Hope this helps

  42. Lee Says:

to joanne i have now ordered a back plate from LG and its cost me £16 they said i should recieve it early in th new yr. i still had no success in findin 1 not even on ebay

  43. Alan Rorrison www.alanrorrison.com Says:

I had an LG shine for about 18 months and hated the darn thing so i branche dout and got myself an iphone( unlocked of ebay) and it was shocking. Bluetooth is crippled and there are so many bugs its shocking. With in 3 days i had the iphone sold on ebay again and grabbed my self an Lg Ku990 aka viewty and i can say that this is by far the best phone ive ever had!!!

  44. Robert Duncan Says:

Had the phone for a little while now, and memory issue can only read 1gig, really not an issue as i have an 8gig card in works brilliant, and some people go on about no wifi, why oh why would you want something that ewats your battery so bloody fast??? and did you not read its is hdsa ready which is almost 1meg connection. overalll this phone is far better than the iphone, okay not a smooth on the inside, but a few software tweaks from lg, and this could be a real winner, all ready this phone is out selling the iphone i wonder why that is???

  45. Ainsy Says:

just ordered a new back cover for mine as i lost it, there on ebay just under £15 with post

  46. Joanne Says:

To lee, where exactly did you get it from?
when i called LG they said they didnt have any. do you have a number or anything? Thanks tho!!

  47. John Says:

I really like this phone, but not been able to install sat nav or no sign of LG installing a similar version is holding me back from buying it. I know iPhone have a gps dongle to support sat nav and the new iPhone version come with a build in GPS. I might hold out a couple of weeks and see what happens! :)

  48. Andy Says:

I got my LG for christmas a as upgrade and it is a amazing phone, but there are some things that are holding it back like the music player, and when you are texting there is not backspace button? Is there and i haven’t nocied it? Please tell me if there is, but it is a great phone and I think that it is the best phone i have had so far. I was going to choose the Sony’s K850i but i heard that it was developed very well and it wasnt worth buying and I am glad that I have the LG now.

A** phone buy it if not consider it.

    Thanks

    Andy

  49. tyron Says:

it does hav a qwerty keyboard

  50. Lee Says:

to andy the back button 4 textin is the C button at the bottom of the screen

  52. Steve Says:

I have had this phone for a couple of weeks now.the phone is great. The tochscreen is fantastic, very sensative and easy to use.The pen that comes with it also makes it very enjoyable to use on,the quality of the camara is also good taking in mind that its a mobile, and most of the features make this phone worth buying .I would say the major downfall of this phone would have to be the short battery life, which i have to say im not impressed with.

  53. Jamie Says:

Answering to ‘Andy’, the back button when texting is ‘C’. I also had problem with this, but read the manual and it said so in there. :)

Am i stupid, or has anyone has had trouble installing the LG viewty via the disk? It’s a mini-disk (Why?) and doesn’t seem to register on my laptop.

  54. user Says:

Yes, i have the phone and its awesome but its hard to do some things on the internet with it

  55. user Says:

the backspace button is c, but when txting on a touch screen phone, and then touching the c for backspace isvery unconfortable as its so much tougher to press then the screen.

    anyone else notice that????

  56. lucy Says:

does ne1 no how to reduce the size of mp3 files so that u can fit more songs onto the phone???i tried normal files and it only allows like 4 songs….thanks

  57. bobby Says:

This phone is superb! As well as being very light, thin (thiner than the samsung G600!) it also has:

    5 Mega Pixel Camera
    Touch screen
DVD Player (In Divx format, but DVD quality!)
    MP3 Player
    Web Browser
    Organizer/Calender/alaram/Calcuter etc

    + its also a phone! :)

p.s for those og you I have an 16 gig Micro SDHC and it does not recognize the full capacity, but oh yes, it does indeed see the “full” content! I currently have 20 DVD Movies on my phone, and it is awesome, Excellent sound too!

Just do not “format” the card whilst the card is in the phone!

    Superb

  58. kate Says:

im having some problems thou .. i cant delete my contacts ..everytime i do so it asks me for a security password. even when switching on the handset lock it asks for the password.
does anyone know wats the default security password for this fone .. plzz lemme know.

    thnx a lot

  59. Andrew Says:

    Love it!

  60. Robert Says:

i just got this phone and it sooo good, graunted it doesnt have the hype that iphones got but its facked full of usefulness. i was quite worried becasue my mum got the LG chocolate and i thought that was a pile of w**k. its quick (unlike the nokia n series) its easy to use. and you can do everything that you need to, it’d be nice to have gps and wifi and whatever but thats, life can go on without it!

  61. Angela Says:

Just got this phone and although I’ve worked out using “C” at the bottom of the phone will backspace - does anyone know how to cursor back without deleting the text?

    Appreciate any help!

    Thanks alot

  62. peterT Says:

I have it now for 1 month. good phone, but couple minor things: i read pdf documents on my phone, which works, but there is no “goto page” option. Big hassle if you are on page 86 and want to read quickly a couple of pages. Also the mp3 player does not remember were it stops. This is a problem for me as i listen to talkshows of 3 hours. fast forward is actually slow forward. Hope they improve these features.

  63. Leila Says:

Great Phone! Had it only a few days, but already the best phone. My N95 was awful. Great idea, if it actually worked and had a decent battery. The Viewty is the future. Looking forward to it’s upgrade. Can it get much better?

  64. wolflike Says:

    to Lucy
you need to convert your mp3 files to mp3pro. this reduces the size of the file by half again. you can usually reduce the file size of 5 songs to get at least 9 songs onto the same space.

the only way to cursor back is to tap the screen between the letters.

excellent phone wish the calender display on the front page was linked to the actual calender though.

  65. heids Says:

viewty is really beauty for me. i love it!! im a nokia user. first time to shift to other brand but wow its great. all the features is all i want for a handphone. i will really recommend viewty!!

  66. bimal Says:

    ONE WORD…..AWESOME !!!

  67. bimal Says:

As i had mentioned earlier its an awesome piece of invention. My only disappointment is that it doesn’t have applications or games available. If someone knows where to dowload ,please help

  68. scotty Says:

just got the viewty silver. Great phone im loving it.
But how to you make video calls. my partner has a 3g video phone to me thinks its the k800i she cant make them either just keeps saying video call failed.

  69. hawkmiles13 Says:

Got this phone this week and I LOVE IT! The internet is quite fast. Wish it had wi-fi though! :( Love the camera and the touchscreen. I couldn’t quite get on with the handwriting screen thung, but i found if you change it to handwriting box and write each letter in the box it works a little better.

Also @ Scotty, I had this problem too. Turned out it was because I wasn’t in 3G signal. If it says 3G in the top left corner then it should work. If not try contacting your network provider.

I swore after having an LG phone before that I wouldn’t have one again but this phone is worth it in every way.

  70. JH Says:

Just bought the phone and pretty pleased with the camera. However, was a bit upset that it does not iSync with a MAC.

  74. yoga Says:

somehow i am not happy with this Lg viewty phone its a good instrument with camera but the speaker and mic is not good , my voice is echoed back to me most of the time and the other persons voice is not sweet, it sounds very flat and rude and surprisingly i am not receiving much calls after i bought this phone i wonder why ? i have now shifted back to sony erricton 990i with problems but its comfortable

  75. Al Pacino Says:

i have had this phone for a month now and i can say i love this phone i myself am a Nokia user and i have a Nokia 3250 twist phone but the LG Viewty has more advanced software like divx player avi, MP4, 3GP format videos but like my nokia you cant play avi or MP4 files but there are some down sides to it like there’s no lens cover, no equalizer, no WI-FI, no built in sat nav the games are a bit hard to use and the hand writing section is hard to use but other than that i would recommend the LG Viewty to anyone.

  76. Haggis Says:

For people that want to send photos from their LG to their mac.
I had a problem for months and always did it by Bluetooth
To do this you need to pair your phone with your computer for a quicker transfer and go to your images >send > bluetooth > choose device etc.Should work.
I recently just realized that when you plug in your USB cable you have to choose mass storage device before anything works [under menu, phone settings, connectivity, USB connection mode..]

I also have a memory card in and had to transfer all my files into my external memory before it would work. Hope this helps!

    Hi.
I’ve seen a lot of comments, some people saying that the phone can only have 2gb SD’s, and some saying it can have 16gb. How do you get the 16gb working on the phone?
Also, I saw this phone has a Div-X player. Does this mean it can play only Div-X, or it can play any movie the Div-X on a computer can play?
Hopefully I’ll be getting this phone soon, after getting a few questions cleared.

Just got my red viewty and i like it but I am sick of having to press the unlock key every 20 seconds of no activity. That is just too short. go to contacts and try to find a number find right button and banf is locked again. Its ruining the phone for me.

Like to know how to install opera mini too.

Bought this phone for my sister. I wouldn’t say it’s a great phone, I prefer my N95 8gb but for what it is, it’s pretty good.

Has anyone in here successfully use the Viewty’s email function? I’ve tried all sorts of email - yahoo, gmail, gmail mobile, bigpond, mac - nothing seems to work for me.

Has anyone else used a different video player on the viewty?
