Released together with LG Voyager, the LG Venus (also known as LG VX8800) is another wonderful phone that comes equipped with touch-sensitive display, aiming to challenge the master of Touch screen technology– Apple’s iPhone. It is hard to believe that the LG Venus is in fact the successor of the LG VX8500 as LG has made so much of changes on the stylish looking slide style LG Venus. Features of the Venus phone include a 2.0-Megapixel digital camera, Music player that plays MP3, WMA, and AAC files, Video Player, Video Recorder, Video Streaming Support (Watch TV programs live on the phone), built-in GPS navigation system, and microSD expansion slot that supports up to whopping 8 GB of memory expansion.

everything i expected from a lg

  2. Greg Leung, NJ Says:

I brought the Venus last week and having a great time with it. The call quality is good (even with my bluetooth). I set the vibrate on low and cut off all sounds on the keypad to save battery life. Music player works well but I wish it had a better camera. This phone is a very stylish phone and it works great! I am very happy with this phone from Verizon.

  3. JohnnyBravo Says:

Just got 2 of these phones.
    Dislikes:
-No standard 3.5mm headphone jack(I keep losing the little adapter)
-No desktop charger(have to fumble with the charger port cover)
-No auto focus camera (pictures are ok though)
-No camera flash(miss it but no biggie)
    -Still a small screen
    -Standard battery is weak
    -No standard USB mini port

    Likes:

    -Features
-Touch pad works fine(contrary to other reviews)
    -Signal strength greatly improved
-MP3 player is suitible and easy to use.
    -Screen resolution is very nice
-Onboard speaker is suprisingly loud and clear

Overall it is the best verizon phone yet for the non qwerty generation.
Not very many options available at this time, but sure to come out soon. I don’t know why in this day in age , phones can’t have acceptable camera quality. It is sometimes like having a third arm….nice to have but not very useful. Was auto focus that difficult to add?! I will miss the desktop charger option too.

    Thoughts on verizon wireless:
Would like verizon to offer roll over minutes…..verizon will be sure to nickel and dime you to death……eveerything you do with the phone will cost you a pretty penny. When is CDMA going to finally die and we can join the rest of the world?????

  4. JohnnyBravo Says:

FYI: The phone has dedicated 64mg onboard for music only and 64mg for other things like ringtones, wallpaper an themes. And remember there is NO ZOOM on the camera.

  5. Josh Says:

Actually, there is zoom. It’s in the options of the camera.

  6. AWESOME!! Says:

Awsome u spelt awesome wrong!! but LG is amazing

  7. BrownEyes Says:

does anybody know how to set different ringtones for people when your receive texts? i want my boyfriend to have a different alert ringtone but i cant seem to figure it ou! please help

  8. mkkisses Says:

I have now had this phone for 2 1/2 weeks. I really like how compact it is and all the features. BUT, a big BUT…. it does not always ring and shows I have missed calls when my phone has never rung. Also, the touch pad worked fine at first, but the more I used it the more it did not respond in use (have to push multiple times). I just do not feel this touch screen will have a long life time. Also, may not be a big deal for most, but is a nice feature I have had in my previous LG phones that I really miss; the ringtone ID for Text messages. I contacted LG, and they said it is not available for this particular phone, so that was a bummer. In all, I think it is a good short term phone, but will not last for those who are looking for good quality. I will be returning it today :(

  9. Ms. Patty Says:

I have really enjoyed this phone, all except the camera. The camera is of poor quality and is set up in a way that it is hard to snap the picture.

  10. bears1 Says:

Hey Browneyes to set a particular ring tone you go to contacts tap on the name you want to have the ringtone for. tap on edit arrow down until you see ringtone tap on it then it will pull up all your ringtones just enter the ringtone you want tap OK then Save

  11. Ms Lori Says:

Hey you guys are confusing me. I bought abLackberry Pearl and hated returned that got the Samsung Gleam and now I hate that was going back today to get the Venus but now you have left me confused…..I need a good speaker phone I hate anything attached to my head. A screen at least the size of my previous razor. Will this phone work for me???

  12. venus lover Says:

    I love the Venus ! :D

  13. Sky Chief Says:

I have had this for months now and it is still perfect. keypad works, touchpad works, I have a boatload of music on it and the camera and video work as expected for a ‘cell phone’. I have to say after owning at least 7 different version Verizon phones over the years that this is the best so far.

One other note: I agree with the poster who said Verizon will nickel and dime you to death… ‘For $10.00 dollars a month we can wipe your *ss with this new great feature!’

Enough already! I don’t care. Our parents should be rich since they never had to pay for tv, internet connections and cell phones.

Do you realize how much it cost for people to be in touch and entertained these days?

  14. jo Says:

How do you make the video player work?

  15. jo Says:

can you put movies on it?

  16. Cingular Lover Says:

Verizon is the worst network in the world, the service suck, the phones suck, and everything else sucks….Verizon needs help from cingular the best network in the world…

  17. rosenwhite Says:

    I absolutely LOVE my Venus!!!!!!

  18. I want a Venus Says:

I am thinking about buying a Venus, but I want to know if the touch screen gets lots of finger prints on it? If so, how do you clean it? How many ring tones come with the phone?

  19. CONFUUUZED Says:

when i plug it into my computer with USB cable it wont install…did a cd come with it? how can i install it?

  20. tdawg Says:

this phone is amazing except for the fact that the touchpad needs multiple presses sometimes

    i love it tho

How do you activate the GPS in the LG Venus?

  25. Wondering Says:

I’ve had my current Motorola E815 phone for 3 years w/Verizon and it still works great. But I’m getting “antsy” for something new. I’m looking at this LG Venus Pink and reading your comments. Lots of questions have gone unanswered…
I don’t need lots of features as I am not that savvy when it comes to cell phones. I need basics but like the idea of having my callers hear a song rather than a ring!
    Comments????

  26. Answering questions Says:

I have had my Venus since March and have yet to find anyway to set your own music (not bought and downloaded from Verizon) as a ring tone. The only music you can have as a ring tone are the ring tones that you purchase from Verizon. I think the battery life is “OK.” It lasts for about 4 days without having to be charged, but I do not use my phone as much as some of my friends do. Maybe 6 or 7 calls a day that last an average of 5 minutes. There are a decent amount of ring tones that come loaded on the phone (21 actually). 16 are actual ring tones, while the other 5 are the beeps and other sounds. About the fingerprints on the touch screen, it drives me crazy, but is unavoidable because when using the phone your face always leaves stuff on it as well. I just wipe it off with a wet paper towel. I am also just as clumsy as the normal person and have dropped my phone a couple time and there are still no problems with it. A couple little scratches and dings, but that’s about it. I was told by the guy at the Verizon store that he recommends getting screen protectors because they do have a tendency to get scratched when in your purse or pocket, which is true. I bought two packs (3 protectors per pack) from Verizon, and they are $10 a pack. I always have one on and when it gets scratched up I switch to a new one because I don’t like to see the scratches. Speaker phone quality it great. It doesn’t crackle or skip like other phones I’ve had and it also can get pretty loud. The phone also has a very loud ring, and I mean loud. Other phones I’ve had had to be set to the highest volume and sometimes I still couldn’t hear it when it was in the other room or in my purse, however, with the Venus I only need to set it on the second level and I can hear it a couple rooms away and in my purse.

  27. Lina Says:

    What the f…k???
i cant use my music as a ringtone?? whats the point of having this useless cell???

  28. LT Says:

A bit bummed that I can’t use my own music as the ringtone, but I like the funky Sanford & Son inspired tone that comes with the phone anyway.

When someone calls me, they hear classical music, is there a way to change that? I haven’t figured out how yet, if it it is indeed possible.

  29. jason Says:

it is simple to use your own music as a ringtone for the venus. I love mine!http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?referrerid=295219&t=1369109

  30. Savior Says:

All you have to do to make music clips into ringtones:

Use Audacity to make your 20 sec. music clip and make sure to save it as a .mp3 file. Then attach the file to an email and send it to your cell phone. The addy will be YourCellNumber@vzwpix.com. When you get the message on your phone the music should be playing. Options>Save as Ringtone you will be prompted to save it, hit yes. Then you will be prompted to make it your default, that decision is up to you. I have most of my friends with custom ring tones so I don’t use the default option.

  31. sfgagafdsfas Says:

  33. Emily Says:

Does anyone know how much a song costs ?

  34. mike Says:

wanderer the venus is not the right phone 4 u it has a tiny keyboard and u cant set music as a ringer and my music teacher says its battery life is horrible

  35. i love my venus but am very mad at it Says:

HOW DO U GET MUSIC ONTO UR PHONE FROM UR COMPUTER AND WHOEVER IS ON HERE IF U KNOW U BETTER ANSWER ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. oddball Says:

If you look around for a program (free) called bitpim, you can back up your phone numbers and edit them as well (with the USB cable that comes with your phone.), add ringtones of your own (mp3), assign ringtones to numbers, edit calendar entries, etc. You can add a microSD card up to 8GB to hold music & videos. Music can be MP3, unprotected WMA, AAC, M4A. Format card using the phone, set memory card to store music, pix, etc in memory card menu (0). Remove card and use a card reader (USB) to transfer files to my_music or my_flix folders. Video files should be 320×240 mp4, 768K. Using BitPim you don’t need to monkey around with bluetooth or send files to yourself-you just transfer with a PC. Hope this helps a little!

  41. Kiki Says:

does anyone kno how to put the songs as ringtones without having to buy them or downloading it and it bein sent to your phone?
like do you kno if it’s possible if you record a song and set it as your ringtone?

  42. Sal Says:

Try loading it with you micro sd card. Is there a specific song you have in mind????

  43. unknown Says:

my lg venus which i had for 4 months now doesn’t turn on just beeps and says cannot load file.
    what does this mean??

  44. yes Says:

ive had my venus for over a year now, and it still works pretty well, my screen has alot of little scratches though from keeping it in my pocket, it can only hold about a dozen songs though so i am probably going to get a micro sd card, but its holding up pretty well, ive dropped it ALOT and it still works fine

  45. Janet Says:

i honestly have to say that this phone sort of sucks because the memory sucks so after every 100 txt messages or so i have to delete all my txts to make room for more and then even after i delete my txts my phone still says that my memory is full >__>.
i also think the touch screen is a bit laggy, the speaker sucks and the screen gets disgusting if you dont clean it but that’s my opinion.
Overall the phone isnt bad, it’s quite stylish :)

  46. Janet Says:

i also wanna thank Savior for telling us how to make ringtones ;D

They take monitor because some times got ghosting effect of past information. ,

  48. kymberlyb715 Says:

I purchased my Pink LG Venus back in December 08, since that time I have had to replace my phone 4 times.

This is the worse phone ever!!!!

I have several problems with this phone. The first is that it does not always ring and shows I have missed calls when my phone has never rung.

The second is that the touchscreen freezes

and the third is the ghost like effect of past information on the touchscreen.

If I could go back and do it all over again I would get the LG Env3 like my husband got.

All Verizon does is tell me that there are no known issues with the phone and send me a new one.

I told them that the first time I came into the Verizon Wireless Store that there was a State Trooper there with the same exact phone as mine and had the same exact problem that I had.

It wasn’t till last week when I got my 5th replacement phone and called to complain about the same problems, did a girl tell me that this phone does have these known issues and she doesn’t know why the other techs told me there were none!

It only took a year to figure this out and now I am out the money for the stupid phone. If they would have told me about this phone having these known issue and didn’t keep replacing it till after the 30 day return period, I could have returned the phone and got the LG Env 3 instead and would have not had to waste a year dealing with the crap!

The best advice I can give a person researching this phone for purchase, is to NOT PURCHASE THIS PHONE!

  49. Kayla Says:

I bought this phone June of 2008 so i have had it about a year and a half. I haven’t had any problems with it. The screen and keypad still work fine. I have a screen protector sheet on it so it doesn’t have any scratches. My only complaint is that you can barely hear the person on the other end while talking to them. It has to be completely silent. I always turn on the speaker just so I can hear the person I’m talking to. Other than that I think this is a good phone.

  50. Dan Says:

I have had a bunch of problems with this phone. It was fine for the first six months but then it got bugs and would delete contacts and call people in the middle of the night. I am now on my fourth venus. All the rest broke down in one way or another. I wanted to trade it for something different but verizon wouldn’t let me without charging for the full cost of a new phone. To all who have one, good luck! as soon as I can I will get a different phone.
