  1. Ivy Says:

I just bought this phone from verizon and I love it. The screen is big and it is slim. Although the digital camera doesn’t snap the best quality photos in the world, it is still a little toy for me to have some fun with my friends.

  2. julie Says:

Had to return the first VX8700, battery would go dead within six hours of low use. Got second one…battery went dead within eight hours! Have only had it for a week. Overheats. Calls don’t sound clear. This phone has problems.

  11. Keith Says:

Just got the phone yesterday. Charged it fully before using it and it works great. I had a Razr and just love this phone. After 24 hours battery is down 1 bar out of 4. So far so good, I’m very happy with it!

    how much is it for?

  13. Short Battery life. Says:

If you have the same problems as many have with ths phone and short Battery life.
I solved my problem. I let the battery completely exauhst itself until the phone shuts down. Then I let it charge to full capacity. After that it lasts a whole lot longer.

  25. Johnny Says:

I have the LG VX8700 and the battery life is really bad but if you turn your back screen light off it works like a beauty i havent charged it for 4 days and i use it constantly and if you want to save even more battery life then you should turn off your keypad light off!!!

  26. jjt Says:

how do I play games from the SD card that I downloaded on

  27. Dave M Says:

Bill B., I’m currently waiting on my third vx8700 to be delivered. Bluetooth has crapped out on the first two, the second time after only 1 week of usage. I have 3 different very high quality headsets that all disconnect after minimal usage. Love the phone, but this is really a pain.

  28. Brent Says:

My battery life was short and the back of the phone got real warm. I was told LG came out with a software update to correct the issue. I had mine replaced under warranty as the camera phone was not working.- the new phone have the updated software

  29. John Says:

You guys are all right about the battery life, it is horrible, I’m recharging every 12-15 hours. And yes mine gets extremely warm as well on the back. I have had multiple phones in the past and every other phone I’ve had,(older models), have more battery life than this phone. I have replaced battery, didnt work, so Verizon replaced the whole phone, and I am still having problems with the battery life. It’s the phone…..

  30. Cathy Says:

I’ve had my 8700 since last May (07), and I’m very pleased with it. I use it heavily and have the extended battery, a must. The cover for the ext. battery is thin plastic, very different from the otherwise solid exterior elsewhere. After reading all the comments, I’m convinced there are simply some bad batteries out there. Mine is on 24/7 and will go easily 3-4 days without recharge, although I may have to replace the battery after 8 mos. constant use. Talk time is less than specified, approx. 2 hrs. The 8700 has one of the largest fonts available in the market, a real plus. No cases available for the ext. battery (bulges out the back), however, I’ve carried it everywhere without a case and despite occasional drops, etc., it’s fine. VW told me to be sure to turn it off/on once every 24 hours, and this helped with problems that could not be specifically identified as phone- or service-specific. Overall, an excellent and durable phone.

  31. Crystal Says:

I just got the phone last night, they gave me a option on any phone i wanted due to the ENV that i had which got replaced 4 times. but neways. i was on the phone, and it gets really warm, my battery life is ok. im a teenager, and i text alot. but to save some battery power, turn off the keypad lights and the back lights, and dont have a animated wallpaper, it really helps save the battery..

  32. remi Says:

nice phone, but sorry, battery life is ridiculous. if the phone has no power, it ceases to be a phone at all. after three months, the thing dies after a few 10 minute conversations. and, don’t forget to charge overnight, or you will wake up to a dead phone. finally had to spend about 2 hours at verizon store, waiting for them to “test” my battery. how annoying is that? I mean, i’ve been testing it for them, and i told them the results. it doesn’t freakin’ hold a charge. no one has any faith in their customers anymore. i finally found a manager and after some nudging got a new battery for free. now, i’m not sure why this battery will be any better, but we shall see. so, enjoy your new phone, but at $200, you’ll likely need to plunk down another $40 every few months. ENJOY!

  33. TomassoCroccante Says:

A tip on improving battery life in a BIG way, from a post on cnet.com:

The EVDO function is a big battery drain, even if you’re not using it. You can disable EVDO (broadband network) and increase your battery life.
Enter ##77647268700 and hit “send”; enter password “000000″
    Choose “3. Network Select”
    Choose “1. Mode Preference”
    change to “1X only”

Also says that if you are not using a bluetooth device, turn off the bluetooth feature.

Additionally, I agree with the post that suggests running your battery all the way down before re-charging once or twice – this allows you to “season” your battery. Did this AND disabled EVDO after my first, disappointing charge, and had great results.

Love this phone. I use a camera for work a lot, taking photos to show clients. I was looking for a phone with a decent enough camera to fill in when I didn’t have my 5MP with me. The 2MP takes excellent, usable images. (I LIKE the shutter lag – after depressing the shutter you have about 2 second before the photo clicks: use that time to steady the shot, since pushing the release will often cause the camera to move.)

Reception is superb on this phone, clear and uninterrupted compared to many others. And a favorite feature: the voice prompts to dial anyone in your phone book. You don’t have to record anything, just say “call … John Smith” and the program does the work. Fantastic. No more scrolling into the phone book, and the speed dial … why bother?

  34. Aaron Says:

My battery dies the same thing i will wake up then turn it on with full battery, make a couple calls and by the end of the day almost dead. It will last not even 24 hours w/o having to be recharged and i have replaced the battery twice, the phone 3 times and they wont give me a different model

  35. bill Says:

REN:to use your mp3’s as ringtones download the bitpim program works great ….

JJT: as for the games you have downloaded to the sd card i’m working on the same prob iif you get it working please post how and i will do the same

  37. Natalie Says:

I’ve had the VX8700 since July 2007, and I love it. I did have to get it replaced once just in April because the first one I had started to cut out my calls on the other end, but before then I haven’t had a single issue with it. I’m surprised to hear of the battery life problems everyone seems to be having, mine is great. I text practically all day every day and I only have to charge my phone about once every 3, sometimes 4 days. It’s a really nice looking phone, really heavy which I like, and has beautiful graphics. The camera is good provided the natural background is very bright, I do wish it had a flash because if the room is the slightest bit dark, the image comes out very dark and can barely be seen. I’ve dropped my phone more times than I can count, even to the point sometimes where the back falls off and the battery comes out, but it has never missed a beat. I love the keypad, very easy to text on. I used to play around with my friends’ phones, such as a Samsung model that resembled the Verizon Alias but didn’t flip both ways, and I couldn’t stand texting on it because the key response was incredibly slow. I would have a whole sentence typed and only one word would be on the screen. Great phone, I definitely recommend it.

  38. Doug Says:

I am getting quite annoyed with Verizon over this phone.. Had this phone since June 2007.. I have replace the phone twice already, and am heading to the store today for a 3rd, before my warranty goes.. What annoys me is that every time they replace the phone, they give a refurbed phone, and they always have the same issue.. The battery stinks.. Mine worked alright for about a week, and then all of a sudden the battery won’t hold a charge.. My phone lasts less than 8 hours with about 10 minutes of actual talking, before it is dead… And at the same time this happened, the bluetooth will no longer connect to my phone. One day it worked, and now it doesn’t. I tried to remove the device and re-pair it, and now I can’t pair the device back to the phone… I am hoping they will give me a different model at this point, but I will not be holding my breath.. New Every 2 starts up in Feb. 2009. Only 8 months to go… Who needs a usable phone anyways!

  39. Jun Says:

I have recently found that this phone has the bluetooth problem. As you know, it is mandatory that drivers have to use handfree device while driving. Therefore, I bought Jawbone and was trying to pair with my vx8700 cell phone…

It almost took one day to pair it. I almost thought that either Jawbone or my cellphone has the problem.

In addition, it easily disconnects.. I was so disappoited.

Alert!! Bluetooth does not work in this phone…

  40. T Says:

I too have had bluetooth problems. Batt is fine. On specs it says phone has a flash. Not mine! Otherwise, good phone.

  41. Watch Out Says:

I got this phone 6 months ago and had already spent a total on 5 different batteries. I do not recommend this phone to anyone unless they are willing to spend money on new batteries every month. At first, I thought it was the phone so I exchanged it. Got me a new one but within a week, battery drained. Traded for a 3rd one after talking to the sales associate and manager and once again, battery drained. Bought new batteries and still didn’t help. I got so pissed that I threw the freaking phone away and used my old phone. DO NOT RECOMMEND the VX 8700!!!

  42. J Says:

I’ve had this phone for 3 months now and i love it,i don’t have problems with the battery. Its winter here and its cold lol so i havnt had any over heat problems yet. im a teen so i txt alot also my battery seems to last me about.. 2-3 days then i have to recharge it

  43. greg Says:

    yeah the battery sucks.
i had this phone for about a year and had to throw down fifty for the massive battery but its double the length.. and size of phone.

    worth it though

  44. christina Says:

Yea, my battery sucks too. I have had it since July 2007.
I had to charge it every night, but about a month ago, my battery
started dying halfway through the day. I got a new battery and have
the same problem. I’m getting really pissed off.
