Mitsubishi Phones are No More

It may be surprising news to some when they hear that the famous and esteemed automobile manufacturer, Mitsubishi, also have been in the business of producing cellular phones, however it is true. Their cell phone ventures go back to 1983 when they first started producing car phones. One reason that so many may be unaware of Mitsubishi’s cell phone endeavors is that Japan has been the primary recipient of much of their handset products. Recently rumors have been flying that Mitsubishi is going to throw in the towel on cell phone production and sadly the rumors are turning out to be true. Mitsubishi has announced the end of their cell phone manufacturing business and they are planning reassignment of the 600+ employees producing the cell phones to other parts of the company.
Mitsubishi had forecasted that they would produce 2.1 million handsets in 2008. Unfortunately, they have suffered such set backs in their cell phone production department that they obviously felt that they could not adequately recover from them. After considering all other options, they have decided to discontinue their cell phone production this year. It is a little amazing that this company was in production of so many handsets while so few people knew they were even in the cellular phone business. Mitsubishi has been producing quality products for the past 80 years and although they are now out of the cell phone market, I am sure we can still expect to see great things from Mitsubishi in the future.
