  3. James Says:

It’s a good phone but it doesn’t actually have a slot for the memory card that would allow for more music storage.

  4. me Says:

watz wrong with the music feature i can’t figure ou thow to put music on it?

  5. CLP Says:

There is a slot for the memory card where the battery is. It’s really hard to notice at first. Read the manual for the phone and it tells you where the slot is.

And you will need the software (Motorola OEM Mobile Phone Tools Software CD 4.0) to put music on your phone.

  6. Kitty Says:

James it does have a memory card slot. It is Sdmini I got a 2 gig one at Best Buy for $20.00. And have a ton of songs on my phone. Along with pictures.

  7. Kitty Says:

If you have a memory card slot You can simply use the drag and drop method to add songs to your phone. It is real simple. Pretty good phone for the money.

  8. Sarah Says:

This is an awesome phone. I love it! It’s so much better than my last phone, the sidekick III.

  9. Amber Says:

i just receved the phone a few weeks ago, its simple to use and works great, though this is the 2nd one i have hat they both kinda gliched if i pressed the buttons too fast… but other than that everything about this phone is wanderful compaired to some i had in the past

  10. Angie-Lee Says:

I am also having trouble with the MP3 part of the phone. The man at the Fido company were I bought my phone ( today) put the memory card in and I saw him put it in. But when I “plug” the phone into my computer the only thing that comes up is something to load the pictures from the phone onto my computer ( its the program that my Digital Camera uses) and I’m really confused. No window comes up with my music. I checked on my I-tunes and my Windows media player and neither show that the phone is even plugged in, so I can’t drag and drop anything. Please help me.

You need to use motorola phone tools to upload music, pictures, videos to youre phone. But before you start uploading update it first because it might not have the version of youre phone .Keep updating untinl it would say no updates were found. 12. nrek619 Says:

this is awesome!!! switched over my miniSD from my old Samsung with mp3s on it. no problem!!!!! I’m a born again Motorola fan now!!! has all the features that I wanted in a flip with the Krazr $$$!!!

  13. w490 Says:

    that phone is soooooo sexy

  14. Stan Says:

Great phone. Has a lot of features, sounds great. It DOES have a micro SD slot folks.

As far as the music features go, read the manual. You can easily put your music on it from your PC, but you should first get the drivers from Motorola so the phone shows up! I also recommend getting the Motorola software package for this phone. It will greatly aid you in transferring music, and even allows you to create your own ring tones from your MP3 files.

Overall a solid phone with a lot of great features. Best phone I have owned.

  15. Smarter than the rest... Says:

    i love this phone.
true it’s hard to sync it to my music list…
but if you buy a micro sd card it works greattt :)
not that hard to figure out people. jeez.

  16. Superhead Says:

i don’t undersatnd how to get the pictures from my phone and put them in a folder in my computer. i plug it in to the USB cable and double-click removable disk and it doesn’t let me go into it, says i need a drive or something like that but i don’t have one i don’t think i should have to buy one just to get pictures from my phone onto my computer, its ridiculous!!

  17. Jaime Says:

well for those who have this phone the phone is great and to get to the mp3 you click games and it is called games and applications there is a link that says Digital music player or you could easyly click shortcuts then go down until you find music player it the last one. to get music into your phone you need a microsd with an adapter where you could buy at t-mobile or best buy or those stores like that. you ge the little memory card and put it in the adapter then there is a slot in your computer some have some dont. if yours dosen’t have it you could buy it in stores in the camera section. and then you could to i tunes, imesh, limewire, or windows media in windows media you could click sync and then drag music an pictures or you could go to my computer and do it from where it says microsd. after you are done you take it out from the adapte then take the battery door off and athe bottom under the battery there is a little slot and you push it in.

  18. rdid Says:

yeea i just got this phone.. its pretty sick but yea that mp3 setup got me weak i dunno how to get this music going

  19. Matty Dizzle Says:

Ok’ I’ve got the phone, the memory card, the drivers and the software.
I also have one problem; No luck when I attempt to transfer mp3 files or photos- (for that matter) -from my machine to the phone! I’m thinking that the software I own is corrupt? If I add music to the memory card using my brothers phone on his system and then turn off my phone, and insert the card, everything works fine. I wonder why I can’t do this on my own???

  20. swami 420 Says:

I got this phone 15 days befor it is a wonderful thing which i got after so long there is a slot 4 mini sd card under the battery folks read the manual but the only thing i do not have a driver for it so I can not upload my music or pic from computer can some one help me for this I will be greatful for this

  21. maggie Says:

yes, it’s a great phone, and, yes, uploading songs can be difficult – some computers (like mine!) misread the sd card as an “external storage device” and don’t store the files in exactly the right way if you don’t use the right software (how could motorola not manage to make their phones completely compatible with windows xp??), but it’s fixable if you talk motorola into giving you the software.

  22. amanda Says:

how do you get music on this phone?

  23. javi mart Says:

I am going to buy the mini sd card for my w490 but I wanted to know if i still need the software for it..I dont want to buy it for 34.99 can i upload music with just the sd?

  24. true complianer Says:

i can’t wait to sign up with Tmobile and get this phone…sprint sucks my balls

  25. HaYnMiss Says:

Hey, I got this phone back in October, but then the buttons just stopped working for some reason last week. Tmobile sent me another one and I got it today. Thing is, before, I could just plug in my phone to my computer and go to my computer. From there I could drag and drop. Now, with the new one, it recognizes it, but then it says it’s in Drive g (before it was in F) and that it’s empty. help? i have no idea how the heck im supposed to add stuff to the phone now.

  26. sync boy Says:

whats the sync and exchange thing

  27. i love my babe's Says:

  28. charcoal Says:

You could click on the software link on the sidebar to shop for compatible software.

  35. Ariespaw Says:

I agree with 90% of everyone here. I got the W490 phone because I loved the color and the text and music features sounded great. Since then, I have been having more trouble getting songs onto my phone then it’s worth. Like others, I have Windows xp, and use windows media player to download music. But it seems to read things wrong or not like what I’m doing. I’ve ended up erasing all my songs numerous times. I watch others with their phones, nokia, samsumg…, and their phones are so easy to put music on, without having to buy software.

  36. bimmerfun Says:

I just bought a W490. It’s a great little phone, but I have a question…The manual says that the W490 only supports Micro SD cards up to 2GB. I’m wondering if it says that because 2GB cards were the largest available when the phone was released. I see that several vendors are selling 4 GB Micro SD cards that they SAY are compatible with the W490…IS this true? Aalso, are larger cards compatible? Are Micro SD HC cards compatible? Thank you!!!

  37. Cruz Says:

there is a memory card slot its on the back of the phone under the battery idiot

  38. Terrah Says:

I know I sound like the biggest idiot but Im not to computer/phone smart. However I just got the w490 and I plug in the usb to phone and computer and it does absolutely nothing. Help? *again I know im dumb

  39. eli Says:

terrah im just as confused as you are.
im computer illiterate! Can anyone help me too??
iv been trying to figure this out for the past 3 hours….
contact me at my own email if you could (tkmyfirehands@yahoo.com)

  40. elijah2012 Says:

There is no question that this is the best phone on the market for the buck. It will do everything it says except for the self-portrait feature. After a half hour on the phone with motorola, they finally gave up that when t-mobile ordered the w490, they requested that the self portrait feature not be loaded onto the phone. Admittedly a stupid move on t-Mobile’s part, but if you must have that feature, you can always buy the w510 out of pocket (the same phone w/feature) because t-mobile does not offer it. As for interfacing with the computer, yes you will need the software package. I have a Dell w/Vista, and it doesn’t even know the phone is there without it. E-bay and places like that have the software for $20 or less if money is the problem. You cannot, I repeat, cannot obtain the features or battery life of this phone for less that $300. That is what the w/510 will run you out of pocket. Frankly, I suggest you live without the self-portrait feature. If anyone wishes to contact me you can get me at bikemike2012@hotmail.com or cohenm2012@yahoo.com.

  41. Isabelle Says:

i love this phone i have it it’s awesome i have it in hot pink

  42. w490 lover Says:

Best phone i have ever had.
You need to buy a microsd card… don’t buy more memory than 2gb unless you want to deal with compatibility problems or wasted money, and only buy a very reputable brand.
To load music on the phone you do not need the software recommended, and there are two ways to get music on the sd card.(a good sd card)
    1. plug it into the adapter a good brand will provide, and then plug that into your computer. you can drag pics or music directly into its folder (found under “my computer”), or windows media player should recognize it and you can follow sync steps. Plug the micro back into your phone and enjoy!
    -or-
    2. Get the correct usb cable for your phone (very cheap if not namebrand) and plug your phone into your computer. This will only work if you go into your phones settings-USB settings-and then choose memory card. Then you can drag or sync again.

  43. w490 lover Says:

    I have one caution…
Once i erased all my music, and then added all new music on my microsd card i all of the sudden started to have problems with some of my assigned ringers. My phone kept on crashing when ppl were calling! scary right! Well i tried over and over to figure it out. It turnes out it was a t-mobile program problem, what was happening was my phonebook had a new assigned ringer for my myfaves ppl and the myfaves itself had a different assigned ringer(default). So it was trying to load two different ringers and crashing. MAKE sure you reassign ringers in the phonebook and in the myfaves settings!!!!!!!!!

  44. ninja w490 Says:

  46. tyrone Says:

I ripped mp3’s that I had stored onto my ps3 onto the memory card and stuck that back into the phone slot, it works fine. Get a san disk 1 GB mem card for 25 bucks (or probably cheaper if you shop around)

  47. jlc Says:

  49. CPB406 Says:

    Kari,
Use the GSM (T-Mobile) device W510 and it will install. I had same problem.

  50. coco Says:

Memory card? Well I guess that’s all well and good for people that don’t have *SIM CARDS*, but that slot is sort of taken by my sim card. And no, it still won’t work. This phone is annoying, everything could be just so much more simple.

and there is a slot for the memory card.. its on the side below the battery…

  53. Julie Says:

How do I take a picture when the phone is closed?

  54. hadzz Says:

This phone is great exept for one thing.. I bought this off brand SD card cause it was really cheap… but when I put it in the phone it makes it so the back won’t snap on because its in the way… and the phone doesn’t recognize its there… however it looks like all other SD card’s I’ve seen so I’m not sure if the problem is with the card or with me being dumb :] anyone else have this problem? is there any trick to getting the card in the slot?

  55. mm Says:

Hi, can someone please explain how I insert the memory card. I know where it is, but it keeps slipping out. Do i have to force it in?

  56. gunmetalblue Says:

Wow, there sure are some illiterate idiots posting reviews here. Did they outlaw punctuation and grammar in your world?

  57. gunmetalblue Says:

anyone with a name like Shaniqua is likely too stupid to figure out a cell phone, let alone write an intelligent post here. Loser.

  58. Arianna Says:

Hey guys. I need to know how to get my pictures and videos from my phone to my computer. When I hook the two up, nothing happens. I go to my computer and go to removable disk… Again nothing happens. Am I doing it wrong?? Please help. Lol.

hey guys, i have been trying to put the software on my w490 to be able to download my music, but i dont have the money to but the software is there anyone who knows where to get it from without having to purchase it? thanks

  62. Cathy Says:

Im absolutely clueless. I have this phone and I don’t understand a thing of what anyone is saying about this phone. I’ve had it for 2 days and cannot figure anything out. What do I need for software for in order to do things on this phone? That is my only question. If someone has the answer, please let me know.

  63. Chelsea Says:

To insert the memory card (the MicroSD card, not the SIM card) on this Motorola phone, you have to push down while pushing in in order for it to snap into place.

  64. knowitall Says:

The slot for the MicroSD card is right at the inside of the battery cover. THERE IS 2 SLOTS! One for the Sim Card is UNDER THE BATTERY. Thank you very much.

For SELF PORTRAIT, open camera, close phone and to take the picture press the SMART KEY. Its the key on the side of the phone with three dots on it. Hold it down and it will take the pic. (:

  65. knowitall Says:

And anyone know why my phone won’t read the Micro SD card? It seems like it doesn’t even know one is in there. Its a 4GB one… Help?

  66. dylansbaba Says:

Has anyone had problems with the W490 purple phone? bought the purple and black one last January. No problems with black, but purple has now been replaced 3 times by Tmobile. The problem is the phone will freeze up and screens turn white. Unable to make or receive calls or text messages. Only way to bring it back to life is to remove battery, sim card. At times the phone will flash sim card removed and then sim card replaced, memory may be lost when it is simply sitting on the table. T mobile is absolutely of no help. Same problem occurs with each phone they send.. any ideas from anyone?? Thanks!

  67. Sam Says:

I have a question. Now, I can’t get the music on here either, so I’m going to get a SD micro. Does it matter which brand I get? I found some for cheap, but I am worried it won’t work in my phone. Should I be worried? I’ve heard any micro will work in it…

  68. Sam Says:

Do you need a certain brand of a SD micro or will any work in the phone? I know it has to be a 2GB or less, but does it have to be SanDisk?

  69. Making It Easy Says:

Everyone, adding media is so easy. No software needed and no cables needed either!

turn on bluetooth and sync the phone to a computer with blue tooth, once its set all you have to do is right click on a file you like and select “to bluetooth”, in that menu the phone should be there so click on it.

just select accept on the phone when it says file transfer request.

    BLUETOOTH IS SO EASY
