I’ve had it for about two days and still getting used to Nokia’a interface. So far so good but Im having problems using MP3s as ringtones??The shortcut keys for contacts,calendar,e-mail and home are a blessing. It keeps one from having to surf through countless options.Botttom line at this point is, I dont think you can get more for your money than the E51. Time will tell
guys..i have used all phones in nokia.. trust me… and moveover all eseiries… i think e51 is the best that nokia can give its users now..its got everything… the speakers are negative.. but for the price u pay for this piece…. i think its ok.. its a deal..so close ur eyes and buy it…
Value for money; Peace of mind. Nothing more nothing less
@ BC:
I had the same problem.
just copy the mp3 file you want to set as a ringtone to the “Sound Clips” folder in the phone memory and then go to: menu/tools/profiles/general/personalise and in “ringtone” you have 2 options: 1 download sound and 2 off. you set it off. and click again in “ringtone” there should appear all the default phone tones and the new mp3 you added. Do the same if you want to add another mp3 ringtone for sms or videocalling.
hope that helps (at least that’s how i made it work on my phone)
I just opened the mp3 in music player and selected set as ringtone, it asked me for which profiles, and all were selected, and it was set as the default ringtone for all profiles.
another thing that everyone misses is the edit key, or penccil key, or the key to mark messages, songs, images etc, that can be done using the # key.
great phone……..
fantastic phone, which i can get. but i didnt use it
I never have problem with the mp3 settings in my E51. Works like a charm
I have set some MP3’s as ringtones but when people call me the tones sound very warped. sort of fast and slow. Very bad sound. Any ideas why?
Apart from that it is an excellent phone and I am very pleased with it.
I like this smartphone. its features spoiled me. for the best sound I use eAAC+ in this phone than MP3.
hi i had been using this phone for the last two months and found it extremely useful to chek mails on the go and other sort of communication needs. i was planning to go for an e-90 which is of course a little more bulky, with this device i am in a position to have all my connection needs in the front pocket. i hve downloaded the gizmo application for w-lan networks and it is functioning superbly. value for money in an easy and small box.
Very Very Nice Phone…….I like It………
I like this phone very much. Actually I was planning to buy E65. I liked this phone than E65. E51 is very slim and has more features than E65. E65 can be bought with less money in E51.
happy to made the step back to NOKIA. being very unsatisfied with S…..G (go for “fashion only” is not enough), made me choose the NOKIA E51. it’s a great phone, easy to use (if you have the proper service provider) and you get more phone and less toys for your money. guys, keep it up!
Its too simple to set a Mp3 song a ringtone, just play the song in the music player and while playing it just go into options and there u get the option to set it as a ringtone infact the phone will ask u the profile u want this tone to be played in ……..
Its the best Business phone I’ve ever come accross I am using this phone since 1 month, everything is competable with this phone.I’ve no problem using it,its worth the value spent for it.
I was going to buy E65,but when I sow E51,I was in love with this slim beauty.Best phone till date.shortcut keys are very handy,in all a very good phone.
I was using Nokia 3250 earlier it was great music phone but this phone dose not support music properly when I opened music player and tried to update music library it is not adding any songs from memory card. I had to transfer songs to my phone memory and than only it updates music library from phone memory. Otherwise phone is OK. i prefer 3250 more than this as the majority of the applications were working good in 3250.
got mine two days ago, loving it, can’t seem to put it down.
so many connectivity options it’s unreal. i use it for mobile internet on my laptop via bluetooth, and also through my home WLAN, superb! (I’d recommend t-mobile ‘web n walk’ packages for this).
loads of features, very sleek design, decent battery life. not found any major downsides yet. Beats my N70 hands down.
1 of the most beautiful handset manufactured by Nokia.. Prior 2 Nokia E51 I was using nokia 6280.. Again neat mobile.. But wen it comes 2 E51…Well.. Well.. Have decided to use this for really long long time as I’m very found of internet which this handset has taken care off. No more cyber cafe.. Me n my E51.. Thats it..Can ask me more about this wonderful mobile phone.
There are a lot of sweet surprise features in this phone. Sometimes I wonder how all those non-E51s are still selling after the introduction of this phone. It is simply superb, no-nonesense, polite and intelligent phone that will never irritate you like some other phones. Everyday I use this phone, i feel sad about others who do not know or never tested E51. Nokia should promote this phone in a big way.
Hi Gav Broon
You just need to update your music library, possibly reboot the phone, that should work!
Every body keeps complaining about the music abilities of E51… But believe me, infact I believed in the the audio design for this particular phone, I just switched to creative EP630 phones (brought online) with a 2.5 to 3.5mm converter pin and it is true… excellent audio… I bet, it can challenge any music phones available now on clarity and music richness.
On connectivity options and processor speed… unbeatable in the present market … compared to its class.
In short… No. 1 in business series… but not far behind in entertainment aspects esp. music… but really bad without a flashlight for the camera
how do i personalise ringtones on an e51 ???
plz help me . from where i can download yahoo!go for my mobile phone ?
i too can’t update the music library with mp3’s stored in the microSD card. i hope they release a firmware fix for it, fast!
This is a good phone…. It has many futures, which is exellent for the money… I don’t like the camera which is very poor for 2MP camera, but it’s ok…. U shouldn’t have any problems with the tracks if u use eAAC+ instead of MP3(eAAC+ has better quality than mp3)… I just bought this phone and i’ve not tryed the voip yet so i cant tell how it works…
I can not wait to get one I am reading reviews but so far it is a great phone as I can see.
It is a very sexy phone.
Excellent phone, I have been using it for a month and no problems so far, as for the music, I use the utility that comes with the phone to upload music and it works like a charm, no problems getting them as ringtones
Excellent Phone….
But ring tones problems me..
low sound when call rings…
can anybody me please..
One of the best phone i owned. the facilities features and everything is great. i was worried about its MP3 volume and photo clarity as its a business phone. but once i started using it, i had one word in my mind about Nokia E51 ………. “”AMAZING”"
Since january 2008 I am using this smarty phone and there is no any kind of problem occured to me. Only a simple drawback is the hardness of the on/off rubber key on the top of E51 while switching on/off.
Now nokia has something to say”Great”
wow wot a phone
im going to give my non-biased (nokia) review of this phone. ive owned it for a few months, and although im not a person that spends $2000 a year on phones, i do buy a phone when i find one that i like.
this is strictly a business phone. That is what it was designed for. You do not get a 5mp camera, an avi/vob media player, or gps (although you can buy the gps bluetooth dongle, but seriously.. whos going to carry that around with them).
The mp3 player is nice to have, but the sound quality isnt good. (compared to any true music phone).
The loudspeaker is too soft to use while driving.
Speaking of driving, i do strongly recommend you buy a holster for this phone. its very slipery and will fly off the seat onto the floor at anything over 30mph.
Be sure to look for the Finnish model and not the one made in china. The chinese made phones are … well.. chinese made phones.
the key pad presses feel good and are responsive.
however, the keys on the edge (power, volume, and hands free dialing) are very hard to press.
The voice recorder isnt worth anything. you have to put the mic up to your face to get a decent volume for playback.
The internet browser is just ok. Its about as basic as they come, but an opera browser is available for download.
The basic features of the browser are enough for you to get by on 90% of web contents.
The 802.11g is surprisingly quick for a phone. http://www.yahoo.com takes less then 10 seconds to load
The symbian OS isnt without bugs. I have had the phone crash on me and a battery removal was necessary. As with all symbian OS, you can debrand your phone for more customization when an update is available.
I am able to make/receive calls from work which i was never able to do with the blackberry perl. (using same carrier)
Battery life is simply outstanding. I use it for about 3 hours a day (wlan, calls, mp3) and i was able to get nearly 5 days from it before a charge was needed.
The charge itself was quick, but it could benefit from a desktop cradle.
this phone is unable to charge through the USB port which i think most on the go people out there would really need.
The voice dialing is nearly worthless unless you have very distinct speaking abilities. I tend to mumble and speak quicly, so somehow ‘Faith’ is understood as ‘camera’ or ‘lee’.
The PC suite software is awful.
If you are like me and think flash is the devil of web programming, then you will hate to see that the entire setup of PC SUITE is flash based. I had to install flash just to install the program.
The speed of the phone isnt fantastic, but its quick enough that anyone who never has had an issue with slow loading times wont really notice. (once again, the unbranded software will fix some speed issues).
All nokia symbian phones do have maps available for a free download and will come in handy when you dont have the gps in the car. The maps do tend to be fairly accurate and are updated a few times a year.
The screen size is what you would expect in a phone of this size. Its large enough to get the job done, but thats really about it.
However, the resolution is decent, and small text is easily readable.
My bottom line.
If youre looking for a stricly business phone that is reliable and can make calls where others cant, get this phone.
If youre looking to have all the gizmos and gadgets of an entertainment phone, then this isnt the way to go.
For those who find their MP3 ringtones warped (that is, sounding high and low)) for whatever reasons, please switch off the 3D tones in the settings. Hope this helps!
I think it’s a good phone, except for its weight, but that’s not a big problem. The only thing that worries me is that i can’t see the artists, albums, and the playlists like ‘most played’ and the other ones that the phone makes itself. I can open thhese folders, bbut they’re empty. even though i DO have the music on the phone. And i can’t update my music library, i tell it to ‘update music library’ but then it just stays at that screen.
This is the one of nokia..the best:)
I am having this phone (E51) for the past 4 months and till now no problems at all,, excellent and very sexy! only concern is when i try to open any site using wi-fi, it says no gateway reply! almost with all networks i get this,, im sure that there is no problem in the phone but i guess need to change some setting,, but tried every possible way, if any one has any idea abt it, just help me out with this, i would appreciate that. I am crazy abt this phone and each day discovering new features in it, I want to use music headset with this,, I tried 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter and nokia n73 headset but its not working, the converter and headset are both working good with other phones, I there any change to be made to use this headset???

E51…well i guess one cant get ny thing better than this at such cheap price…the web is superb n the phone is too fast..thanks to nokia
As Derek pointed out, turn off the 3D tones setting. It foxes the warped/fluctuating ring tone issue.
Thanks Derek, I was struggling to fix that one.
