OpenMoko Introduced the FreeRunner Open Source Cell Phone

April 15, 2008- A new Linux based handset is getting ready to hit the market. The OpenMoko FreeRunner is the newest handset from the producers of the OpenMoko Neo 1973. With a much faster processor, the OpenMoko FreeRunner will be much faster than its predecessor and will therefore offer users more options than the Neo1973 was capable of offering. The OpenMoko FreeRunner will feature a three-axis motion sensor also, to make it a really unique handset that OpenMoko fans will be very excited about.

The OpenMoko FreeRunner, like the Neo1973, will feature a VGA touchscreen for easy menu navigation at the touch of a finger, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities to keep users connected and hands free at all time. These options will make using this cell phone a really pleasure. Users will also find that the OpenMoko FreeRunner comes complete with a microSD memory card slot, an option that is quickly becoming a standard for any new model, that will allow them to externalize and expand the internal memory of the phone. Users will be able to store additional data and multimedia via their memory card which may be purchased separately.
When the OpenMoko FreeRunner is ready for users, it will be available for purchase for $399. Additionally, OpenMoko will be offering a discounted price to individuals wishing to buy 10 or more OpenMoko FreeRunner handsets. The discounted price will be $369 per mobile device. Hopefully, by the end of the month, we will begin to see users with a new OpenMoko FreeRunner in their hands.
