In a recent interview with APC, Palm CEO Ed Colligan said the company’s long-awaited operating system of the future will center around the Internet, and be distinct from the familiar Palm OS that’s currently available.
Although Colligan didn’t mention the difference between the Nova OS and the Android OS (Google), he looked pretty confident in the Nova OS, described the “Nova” OS as a “next-generation operating system with much more capabilities, driven around the Internet and Web-based applications.”
Besides that, Colligan also admitted the mistake of splitting the Palm OS operating system from PalmSource in 2003, causing Palm lost control of the operating system, and forced to use four-year old operating system on its Treo and Centro smartphones.
He also mentioned that Palm will continue to release devices based on the classic Palm, and Mobile Treos for business customers. He said. Nova will be used on something in between a Centro and a Treo, but the company has yet to decide on the naming convention for that new category.
