Samsung BlackJack II (aka Samsung SGH-i617) is a candy-bar shaped smartphone (Windows Mobile powered PDA Phone) that runs on impressive dual-core 260 MHz ARM processor and stable Windows Mobile 6 operating system. Like its predecessor, Samsung BlackJack I, the Samsung BlackJack II features a stylish full QWERTY keyboard for faster typing experience. Samsung added built-in GPS, 2.0-megapixel digital camera, 2.4" landscape QVGA display, and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA support for 3G global-roaming on the BlackJack II, making the BlackJack II one of the most powerful PDAs in the market in 2007.

  1. Jonathan Stehle Says:

This phone is awesome. I loved my original blackjack but this is better. The glossy finish get dirty but it is also easier to clean. Great call quality, windows mobile 6 is a quality system, and though the side wheel is gone the rotating front wheel is easy to get used to. The phone is much lighter, the battery lasts the same as the extended battery on the Blackjack but this is thinner, lasts me 36 hour with constant internet connectivity and 4 e-mail accounts pushing, and I spend about 2 hours a day talking on the phone. The speaker is nice and loud; with a simple/free download you can use any ringtones you want. The camera, though I don’t use it takes decent pictures (for a phone). Samsung did a great job with this phone!

  2. romario Says:

how can i use a wi-fi software on my blackjack ll

  3. Steve Says:

This phone has got to be the BEST phone i have ever used. The only thing that made me second guess was the lack of voice activation, but that was fixed easily by installing Voice Command from microsoft. The interface is easy to work with, speaker on it is awsome and the display is something to be modeled after. Battery life is really good. I was running XM on it all day long, sending text messages and had about 1 hr of talk time and i still had half of the battery

  4. Lisa Says:

I just purchased this phone and really no nothing about it. So my question is if someone can tell me how to download things on it. I did figure out the music but I cant seem to figure out the games and wallpapers i wanted. I would also like to know how to download ringtones. If anyone could help me that would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for any info. email address is canasislover@yahoo.com

  5. Ashley Says:

Can Wi-Fi be downloaded on to the blackjack 2?

  6. Sami John Says:

Best phone by far. I love it. So easy to use, very stylish. This is my first smart phone. I have to say how I was not aware of such technology from MS and AT&T.

  7. will thrun Says:

does ayone know how to down load music and set it as a ringtone. it always says 300kb problem and i dont know how to get mp3 ringtones… please email me with a response thanks

  8. jeff Says:

hey will, or anyone else who is having ringtone problems:

All you have to do to set up a ringtone is to open up windows movie maker, import any song or sound clip you want, trim it down to your spefs., then save it as a and audio file that is under 300kb. Then, sync the phone to the computer and place the file in my sounds. If the tone is 300kb or under, you shouldnt have any trouble setting it as a ringtone.

Also as a trick to use, try recording audio from youtube videos using windows sound recorder located in accessories>entertainment. Do the same steps outlined above and you’ll never have to buy a ringtone again!!

  9. Glen Says:

For all those asking about Wi-Fi on the blackjack ii: Wi-Fi is not supported. There is no Wi-Fi hardware in the phone.

  10. Bryan Says:

You can change the “file size limit” in the registry of the phone using CeRegEditor. Download it, its free and connect to the phone. Go to the “user” file like HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Control panel, sounds then on the upper right, double click file size limit and change it to whatever you want. You have to do it in KB though. I changed mine to 10MB ummm. 10485760. And then you can use all your songs as ringtones, no more crap about “300kb size limit.” Hope this helps out.

  11. Raf Says:

    Thanks, Bryan. BIG HELP!!!!

  12. Anton-NY Says:

Pros: Phone is great! Con’s: No Wi-fi connection or hardware, although, you can get a mini-sd card from Atheros(http://www.atheros.com/pt/wlan_mobile.htm) or some other website like ebay but so far, the mini-sd card only support b, not a or g or the latest N wireless. Haven’t try it though but still checking every now and then they might release a mini sd wifi in G mode, at least. Try googling it. :)

After my 3rd Blackberry(att makes u get a replacement phone three times before you can get a phone that actually works) I was a little leary of using another smartphone.(blackberry has way to many issues)I love my blackjack! It’s a little big but makes up for it in ease of use,no crashes, all apps work, and I can use it as a tethered modem for my laptop wherever I go and don’t lose my signal. Thanks Bryan for the info had a ton of ringtones I couldn’t use.

  24. Cortney Says:

I heard there is an update for this called Windows Mobile 6.1. However, I’m have SUCH a DIFFICULT time figuring it out! I’ve got my phone connected to the computer (I’m on vista) and I can’t seem to locate my “modem” on my computer/phone because the computer says I’ve already downloaded it. It’s my last step to having a successful update. No one knows how to help me.. Do any of you? Can you email me at cortney_wheeler07@Yahoo.com if you do know?

  28. jma Says:

I ordered my first new Blackjack II 7-04-08 and received it 7-08-08. I had researched several models for 2 months and decided this was best for business and personal use. 8-10-08 my soft navigation key stuck. AT&T only offered to send me a refurbed replacement phone with no compensation for the difference in price for a new and refurb phone. I sent it back to Samsung to be fixed. I had no phone for 3 wks. In October I had trouble sending and receiving e-mails. Also I had trouble with tethering. Most of the time the computer wouldn’t detect the device. To use the computer without being tethered, I had to uninstall that program. I was paying extra for a service I couldn’t use and it was costing me business.
After most of the day on the phone with AT&T and Samsung I finally agreed to a refurb replacement. 1-14-09 the soft navigation key is stuck on THIS refurb phone. AT&T sent me another refurb replacement phone. If the same thing happens again they will send me a different type of phone. This is the most expensive phone I have ever had and I have the most problems with it. Anyone else have this problem?

hey guys if u need a GPS nav, dont buy one for this phone. insteed go to microsoft.com and go to win mobile. u set an email account with them at no charge and can download a software call LIVE. it takes a minute to warm up but is accurate within 100 yards. no turn by turn voice, but no monthly fee and they update it every 3 months. i hope this helps those like me who (although enjoy it) believe they spend too much on their bill already. if it does let me know

  32. jp Says:

am using the blackjack 1 and it works great is any one selling blackjack 2 if so e-mail at paapose@rocketmail.com

  34. nodrocker Says:

Overall I like the phone. I don’t like the small dialing buttons, but the contact finder makes up for it. The Outlook Synch is very dandy. This is my first windows Mobile phone. I like the internet feature and the ability to use anything for a ringtone (less then 300 kb, opted not to mess with the registry). The size and ability are a good balance. I like it and would recomend it to anybody that wants to be on top of email, internet or texting. I would say this phone is a text/contact manager before a phone. It’s not exactly a PC, but I am waiting for it to crash. My network is named SolarSystem and my BlackJack2 is named Pluto.
