The cell phone giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd recently announced the release of its new flagship phone “Soul” in Korea. The device will be officially launched at Mobile World Congress which will be held in Barcelona, Spain during later half of February 2008.

Samsung says that the device has been befittingly named Soul as it is the company’s tribute to its highly popular Ultra series of handsets. The brand name Soul is an acronym for “The Spirit of Ultra.” Samsung has released many slim handsets under its Ultra series in recent times. Some of the company’s highly successful models of Ultra series handsets are Samsung X820 Ultra Edition, Samsung F700 Ultra Smart, Samsung F300 Ultra Music and Samsung F500 Ultra video.

The device’s navigation controls change menu according to the requirements of the user. The Soul allows users to customize its Graphical User Interface (GUI) according to their preferences. With a thickness of just about 0.6 inches, the device is an answer to the users’ demand for ultra slim phones.

The device’s High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) internet browser allows users to download data with a high speed of 7.2 mega bytes per second (Mbps). It sports a 2.2 inches Quarter Video Graphics Array (QVGA) TFT LCD display that shows brilliant images with a color combination of 16 million colors. The device’s 5 mega pixel camera is equipped with useful applications like Face Detector and Image Stabilizer.

The Soul uses a standard Li-ion battery that can play music constantly for about 15 hours. Geesung Choi, President of Samsung Telecommunication Business said that Soul will reaffirm the company’s leadership in premium phones category. The device has a hairline textured structure and is completely covered in a metal casing. The slider phone has a touch sensitive display. The device is likely to attract style conscious consumers. The handset will be available in Europe from April 2008.
