  13. Kevin Says:

The phone is alright once you learn about it. You have to get your ringtones from other sites(www.funformobile.com). Right now i am trying to see how i can restart my celular phone because it does not want to turn on… and well i cant take out the battery to restart the cellphone has this happened to anybody?

  14. mark Says:

    i can answer a few questions…

to put music on ur phone, use the included cd and usb cable and its a very simple interface to use.

and for the phone that doesn’t want to turn on, i had that happen and i just plugged it into the charger and it worked fine. but if not there is the reset button on the side.

  15. Kevin Says:

What i did was let the battery die and conect it to the charger and well it turned on.

  16. Jashan Says:

It definitely has a learning curve. My friends can never figure out how to use it.

First off, if you want to add music to your phone, i found using a card reader was easier. The music needs to go into the “My Music” folder.

  22. alejo Says:

is it possible to transfer music from your computer to the upstage ? if it is how can i do it ? thank you . my email adress is aleazp@hotmail.com

  23. info Says:

    Hi all,
what you could do is get a microSD card (usually costs around $20 to $30 dollars for 2GB), plug in the card adapter together with the microSD card into your computer, then your computer (assuming Windows XP and above) will detect your new memory card. After that, you can drag and drop songs into the microSD card just what you do with your jump drive. Please let us know if you guys still have problem.

where should i place the converted video file in memory card

  26. Jonathan Says:

So apparantely Samsung’s aren’t compatable with macintosh computers. Wow, are you kidding me? Are they not right brain compatable either? Why would a company that makes a “music phone” not allow it to be compatable with Macs? Do they not watch the ads on TV? Do they not understand how they are connected? Can I say they are mentally delayed over there at Samsung. Well I will definately return this piece of crap phone tonight. Because of their ignorance and laziness, they turned a “music phone” into just a phone . . . and who really wants that??

  27. so annoying.... Says:

i can play songs…(some of my songs) but i can’t set them as ring tones or even just alarm clock music….. Y!!!!!!!

  28. Jimmy Says:

Anyone know how I can put ringtones on this phone!?! I downloaded one from there server and it says I need a handle!!! what is that? Can I convert my music into a media file that will play it as a ringtone? PLLEASE HELP!!!!!!

  29. Ralf Says:

I love the phone except for the ringtone issue. For everyone asking how its done, the answer FOR RIGHT NOW is you have to purchase them. Sucks, but there is no software out yet that will let us tap in and erase the subfolder that makes our ringtones not work. Good luck and google is your buddy!

  30. confusedupstageuser Says:

hey, i recenlty bought an upstage for my birthday, been savin u for a while, and i fund out we cant have our own music as a ringtone?! my god. will someone please help me and instruct how to transfer my music files on my computer into some cort of video or something so that i can let the (music) video play as my ringtone??? please help! e-mail me at greeneggspurplebacon@yahoo.com, thank you.

  31. dah Says:

the way around it is to create a video with the format .3g2 with this video converter. (.3g2 is the video format the phone uses)
    http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
make it so the video contains no video data and only the audio from the mp3 that you want. you can then upload the .3g2 video to your phone through usb and assign that “video” as a ringtone. since the video contains no video data, the picture that you assign the person when they call will still display, and the song you want to hear will be heard. problem solved.
and yes, its dumb that we have to go through this to make it work, it should just play the mp3 file for the ringtone.

  32. brittney Says:

try making the file smaller by using something like windows movie maker then put them on your phone in a folder or something it worked for the blackberry pearl

  33. buddy Says:

can i get more details on how to upload a converted file

  34. B Says:

Just bought an Upstage that doesn’t come with the CD. Anybody know where I can get the software from the CD in order to put it onto my computer. Anybody willing to sell me theirs for cheap?

  35. Marlene DFW Says:

Oh great, wish I would have read these reviews…my phone will not turn on. Will try to reset phone or try to charge it after it the battery has died.

  36. gg Says:

if you cant turn your phone on try tapping the reset and holding the end call button at the same time, works for me

  37. Valya Says:

I love the phone, but I HATE HATE HATE these stupid ringtones!!! So confusing… Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Kyle Says:

I had the problem with turning the phone on as well. I just kept messing with the reset button and the power key until it eventually turned on. I love the phone, it’s definatly one of a kind, but it is also a little buggy still.

  39. Armand Says:

I love the phone but no mp3 as ring tone is a down! Also games are really hard to play buttons just keeps pressing themselves and boom!

  40. Chris H Says:

To make ANY mp3 or wav into a ringtone for my upstage I use two programs. The first is an mp3 splitter(http://www.codevisions.de/hp/upload/_files/mp3splitter20.zip), which I use to cut out the exact part of the song(pretty easy to use program). The second is a converter(http://www.apecsoft.com/3gp_flash_converter.htm) which I upload my split mp3 into and convert it to 3gpp2(.3g2). I then upload it from my computer and put it into the DCIM — 1000SSMED folder. From there, I just edit the ringer for my contact and use the files under the My Video folder. It sux that I have to use a video ringer, but the good news is that I can use virtually any music file as a ringer. If anyone has any problems or needs help msg me on myspace.com/familyguy05

  41. Tez Says:

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there’s any point to using bluetooth between my laptop and my phone. I can get them to connect to each other, but I don’t know what this “Exchange FTP folder” option is all about and it appears they have nothing to say to each other. Am I supposed to be able to see files on my phone from my computer or vise versa? I’ve never had a cell phone before (or used bluetooth for that matter) so any help would be great. Thanks!

  42. Duong Nguyen Says:

i wonder where you found DCIM — 1000SSMED folder

  43. David Says:

OK SO I CONVERTED IT INTO A .3G2 FILE BUT IT WILL NOT LET ME ASSIGN IT AS A RINGER WHAT DO I DO?

  44. Brian Says:

im having the same problem david. i did convert a wav file that was 10 sec long and it worked but it seems if i try to use anything over that it will fail. does anyone know if it has to be 10 sec or under? or am i just doing something wrong? on my converter program theres like 8 different 3g2 formats… which one should i use? im seriously beginning to hate this overpriced POS.

  46. Neal Says:

First of all, you do NOT need to install the crappy program that came on the CD to transfer anything to your phone. All you need is the driver which is located in the 1_phone (I think it was called) and the DRIVER folder when you explore the CD. Copy the Driver folder to your desktop and plug in your phone. When it finds and wants to install your new hardware, direct it to that driver folder and it will install.

Afterwards when you plug in your phone, it will show up as a flash drive. (Don’t forget to turn your phone on Sync Mode) When you explore your phone now it looks just like an IPOD would (Under My Computer). Now simply copy and paste your music into the “Music” Folder, your Pictures into the DCIM — 1000SSMED folder and anything else in the File storage. IN FACT, why not put that driver folder that you copied to your desktop right on your phone so you have the Driver to use on any computer where ever you go?

As for making the files I would google for Audacity. An extremely user friendly audio editing tool that is free. And use the mentioned above program http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html to convert them to Videos and assign them as videos to your ringers. These videos should go into the same DCIM folder that your pictures go.

    Hope this helped.

Hey I was wondering if anyone can help me out, I have Samsung M620…still trying to figure it out. I purchased the strap for holding the phone while I run (reason for wanting this phone) When a call comes in my music will stop and I can press the button on my headphones to answer the call but when the call is finished the music will not resume on its own, I have to stop and unclip the phone, flip it to the phone side and a message will ask me if I want to flip and resume music. Is there anyway to change it?

  49. ben Says:

im getting a new fone soon, and am trying to decide between the musiq, or the upstage, and have a quick question about texting. Do u have to flip it over to text, then back to look at it, or does it show the text on that small screen on the numbers side?

  50. David Says:

  51. Art Says:

  52. christina Says:

wow, i bought this phone b/c i thought you could make your music your ringtone…what a sham

  53. jiggy410 Says:

    RE: BEN
for texting, u can view it on the small screen as u text, u can also switch back and view on the larger screen when finished to make any changes to a long text. you can also text on the larger screen, but its only for one letter at a time and u have to scroll for the letter, waste of time. you get used to it after a while.

    RE: David
you cant use itunes on this phone.

    and that worked just fine.

The value of this approach is there is no web traffic involved.

  59. methuper Says:

to put ringtones as a song you need a program called audacity. Google around and you will find it. Cut the part of the song then export it as an mp3 either get a media converter or go to mediaconverter.org and convert it to a 3p2 file or something like that. then copy it to your picture folder on your phone. In your phone it will have crystal clear song quality and a red x for the video. Copy or move it to phone and you can set it as your ringtone.

  60. upsageisawesome Says:

how do you make the music on your phone into ringtones??????????

  61. amaynaflava Says:

I would say that methuper has the best idea, although i didnt understand their idea well at first. it really does have good quality.
Here are the steps that worked for me:
    1) download audacity
    2) when u open it, open the song file you wish to use.
    3) select the parts you do not need of the song, and cut out, leaving all but a 30 second clip
    4) save file, open the saved file and export it as mp3/wav (depending on which your computer will support) that gets saved on your desktop/filepath
    5) Go to mediaconverter.org.
    6) Choose the mp3/wav file that was saved/exported.
    7)convert to .3g2
    8)download converted file.
9)connect your phone to your computer. go to dcim->100ssmed->video folder
    10) drag the converted file to the video folder.
    11) on your phone, go to tools, mass storage, file manager, memory card, dcim, 100ssmed, video.
    12) select the converted file(it should be there now)
    13) click on options, click on move, move to phone album.
14)Now (ALMOST DONE), go to your pictures, go to my albums,go to in phone, then you should have a video with a red ‘x’ like methuper said.
15)go to options, to assign, you have a choice of video ringer or voice calls.
    16) assign away and you should be good to go.
Just be careful. It says it cannot assign videos over 512kb so you should always check to make sure.
to check: Right click on converted file and go to properties, it should tell you the size.
I hope this helps, I know how hard it was for me to figure out all the stuff at once.

    Thanks.

  67. Wrecker Says:

I called Sprint and they said that you can’t use a bluetooth headset to listen to your tunes on the Upstage; you have to plug in some sort of headset or earphones.

Re: Mike Says:I had the same problem. THE FIX: OPTIONS > MOVE and the phone will move the file to MEMORY CARD. Once moved I then went to memory card folder did the OPTIONS > ASSIGN and it worked fine.

What if I assigned it to the MEMORY CARD to begin with? Cause when I assigned it, it still says that it has failed.

  73. rick Says:

so no one has tried to convert their video files yet????
every single program i get that supports 3gp2 never works and its getting frustrating. has anyone else come across this problem, is there a certain program only made by samsung or whats the story here…i have tried about 5-6 programs now so somethings up

  74. Sierra Says:

I just happened to stumble upon this site and everything that poster amaynaflava had suggested to do worked wonderfully!

  75. Aaron Says:

Hey To assign music on your phone you go to mediaconverter.org and upload your music then select 3g2 file format then proceed you dont need to change anything else. Your ringer can only be 30 seconds though so if I were you id proceed to zedge.com and get my songs there wide variety of music. Then on your phone Menu>Tools>Mass Storage> Connect to Pc. Then go to my computer> Removable disk> DCIM> 100ssmd and put the clip there. Following that on your phone Menu> Settings>Sounds> Ringer Type> Voice calls> Caller Id or No Caller Id> My videos then if you have more than one ringers just hit options play and if its the one you want hit assign.

P.S. Know a nice bit about this phone so hit my email(aaronobrien_1993@hotmail.com) if you have any questions.

  78. XoDevvvi Says:

if you want to put music and transfer pix, you can take out the memory chip on the side, then buy this memory chip thing that i bought that is normal size but has a little hole type in the front to put the mini memory chip in to it, then put in into your computer then it will be like any other chip, just transfer the stuff over, then take it out and place it back into your phone. but i still dont know how to do ringtones, i record a music video, i go to camcorder on the phone then i just recored a music video from youtube and then just set it to be a video ringer, but the sound isnt the greatest though.
