Sony Ericsson recently announced the release of its new Walkman series of phone. The new device is named Sony Ericsson W980. This music oriented handset features a number of controls that enable the device to deliver a superior quality music and audio experience. The handset features a Walkman on Top design that allows users an intuitive access to its elaborate audio controls.

Sony Ericsson is all set to launch its over-the- air (OTA) internet download service from May 2008. Once the service is activated, the owners of W980 will be able to access up to 5 million music tracks with its help. The device comes with a choice of eight equalizer presets. Each preset has its own range of music and distinct profiles. The phone’s TrackID feature recognizes a music track which the users are not sure about. One has to play just a few seconds of the concerned track into the device, and it will return the artist’s name and other related information of the track.

The W980 comes with a Stereo Portable Hands-free HPM-77 headset. The HPM-77 has a sleek design and is very comfortable to put on ears. The headset reduces background noise to a great extent and also allows users to take hands free calls.

Ben Padley, Sony Ericsson’s Head of Music Marketing said that the device is likely to surpass expectations of music lovers. The device has a 2.2 inches TFT display that has a maximum resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It comes with 8 GB of phone memory and sports a 3.2 megapixel camera with 3.2x digital zoom. The W980 comes with predictive text input and also supports flight mode.

The W980 cell phone has enough memory to store up to 8000 songs. The device weighs just 100 gm. The phone comes in piano black color and has support for UMTS, GPRS, HSDPA and GSM networks. The Sony Ericsson W980 will be available for sale in markets from the third quarter of 2008.
