Beijing Olympics

April 11, 2008- At this years Olympic games in Beijing, there will be something interesting going on. Foreign dignitaries, guests of major sponsors and Olympic officials will be given a specially modified PDA which will hopefully work to make a few things run more smoothly. The modified PDAs will allow Olympic organizers to track the location of these VIPs by tracking the location of their PDA. The goal is to assist these individuals in their navigation of the city as well as assist in arranging cabs quickly. Navigation of the city will be especially difficult for them since, first, they may be completely unfamiliar with the area, and two the city will be populated by an estimated 20 million people attending the Olympics themselves.

VIPs will be provided with directions and information via their modified PDA. The device that will be helping them on their way is called EventTrack. Also, users can send messages that they need transportation to the organizers using drop down menus to select pre-selected destinations such as their hotels, the Olympics, and other offices. EventTrack is also a standard feature on many PDAs, but this modified version will hopefully make things run smoother, as far as traffic and transportation goes, for those involved in the Olympic officiating events. Other languages way also be made available on demand for our foreign friends.

Another important feature, and perhaps the most important feature of all, is that with this tracking system will help security officials to keep track of these VIPs.
