March 24, 2008- Shenzhen phone has a total of 10 stores and specializes in selling pirated electronics… especially cell phones. In the Shenzhen Huaqiang North Road area there are several name brands for sale at pirated prices. Surprisingly, these types of sales are being met with a high degree of acceptance from the general public who seem to only be interested in getting a good deal. Once inside stores such as these, customers will be met with gorgeous displays that rival those seen in legitimate department stores. One store in particular features five floors of merchandise, four of which are underground. These stores also advertise their merchandise and discounted prices openly via free publications that can be found all over the city.

Local government along with cell phones companies have made effort to stop such cell phone piracy, they have been met with very little success. It is difficult to take on such an extraordinary business as these mobile pirates have created. The streets can offer as many as 30 million passers daily by that will be enticed by the sight of cheap name brand cell phones as amazingly discounted prices.
With more and more technology available to the public, it is not surprising that hackers and techno-geeks are finding ways around having to pay for it. Piracy such as this has already been seen in the video and music industry and it was only a matter of time until hackers had graduated from pirating cell phone software to pirating the actual phone. Although such illegal business can and will hurt the cell phone companies, it will be very hard to spot it.
