Verizon Wireless today announced that they will cut the price of their wireless plan, but increase chargest for data plan, a move to ease its data networks because of the popularity of smartphones nowadays. Verizon’s rival, AT&T Wireless, who has been accusing iPhone users for bring down its data networks, is expected to follow suit.

The new Verizon Wireless nationwide unlimited voice plan will be $70 / month instead of $100 / month. Besides that, Verizon Wireless also introduced a new nationwide unlimited voice-and-text plan for $90 / month. Unlimited family plans will be $120 /month and unlimited family voice-and-text plan will be $150 / month.

The bad part of the changes is Verizon Wireless will now charge $10 per month for max of 25 MB downloads, instead of $20 for max of 75 MB downloads. That is a 35% increase of cost per MB.

The good news is you are not going to be affected if you are a current Verizon Wireless customer. The new plans will be available on 1/18/2010 for new customers.

I don’t put that much store in data, sometimes I check my e-mails and look up the occasional stuff but I have a computer with a great big screen for my real data needs. I gave up on contracts a while ago because they overcharge and don’t give you what you need; now I have a Straight Talk phone with unlimited everything for $45 per month and I make a lot of calls so I really make it work for me. Straight Talk runs on Verizon’s network nationwide which means that I get the good coverage without signing a two year contract.

I have Straight Talk on the Verizon network. Bought it at Walmart and it’s an amazing deal. The Samsung Finesse is a very cool smartphone and paying only $45 a month for unlimited everything is the best deal going!

    Who needs an iPhone? LOL!!
