March 20, 2008 – Motorola announced yesterday that they have successfully achieved their first mobile WiMAX trial. WiMAX will offer a new option for handheld users in wireless technology.Previously, the company had received a license from the National Telecommunications Commission, or NTC, in order to conduct their trials, which has paid off. This new wireless broadband will be the first of a series from Motorola and will mark the beginning of Motos global WiMAX development. The goal for Motorola is to eventually be able to offer such technologies to the rest of the world as well as in their trial areas.

WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and the goal is to provide wireless data transfer over long distances. There are several different methods of data transfer for WiMAX users. They can choose between a number of different methods, including anything from point to point transfer to full mobile access. This type of wireless access would act as an alternative data transfer method to previous methods such as a cable or DSL connection.

With this sort of technology soon to become available from such as huge name in the mobile industry, their efforts will surely produce a cost effective means for broadband services for more remote areas. Users who previously had little or no access to such wireless services will now have a means of connection via WiMAX technologies. Motorola carefully chose the areas they were to conduct their trials in order to produce wireless technology that wouldsuit the demands of a business and high demand broadcasting area. This sort of broadband will provide better service for personal broadband applications, online entertainment, video streaming, internet phone, as well as online games just to name a few.
