Hello guys,
My name is Tunde from Abuja,Nigeria. I need some help on Aligning my screen using the stylus. After a hard reset i can not go beyond "Align Screen" setup.
you have to be EXTREMELY patient with this screen. You may have to touch the screen a lot of times, and I mean a lot! I have had to do this quite a few times as i had to reset mine but be patient and keep tapping exactly in the middle and it will eventually move. Don't give up!
Thanks alot..I too was prepared to send phone back. But with the knowledge these forums allow you all to post answers/fixes..it makes the world a better place! Thankx again!
I had the same problem with the new phone that I had purchased and I sent it back because I could move beyond the alignment screen. When the replacement phones also did not work even after hard tapping, i almost went crazy. Then I read the post about tapping and holding it on the + mark and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help and post.
Hey, I'm feeling so frustrated with the screen alignment. As the alignment had something wrong, I tried align it again but it did not work. So I did a hard reset. After the hard reset, I'm stuck at the screen alignment page. I tried tapping it for hours, but I'm still at that page. Any idea what i could do??
I am also stuck on the align page after a hard reset I have tried tapping and holding, holding and tapping but three hours later I am still stuck. I don't know what to do....
Hi there,
Did you try the following method to reset the phone?
1.Press the soft reset hole beside your power button
2.Press the Call and Cancel Button together when you see the Samsung Omnia on the screen
3.The Reset Screen appear
i dont know what happened but my omnia is fine not but sensitivity is not good at all, i have to press the screen bit hard to apply...is there any solution or i think i can update my omnia.
i stay in india and the latest version is DDHJ2 and i my omnia version is DDHH4.
i have that new update but it is for windows XP and i am on Vista....so can guide me how to do the update.
I have the same problem with my Omnia. I've tried realigning the screen so many times I've lost count....and still the alignment is out. It's so frustrating to send sms now. My Omnia used to be fine, but I don't know what happened recently. I noticed that the right side of my Omnia is the part with problems, as in the alignment is out. I can't press the "Backspace" button!
I think this is a long term emerging bug with Omnia, i have one and after about 4 months discovered that the right side of the screen is getting dumb and dumber; if i press backspace i get a full stop, if i press comma i get L, if i press L i get K, if i press P i get O. i have realigned several times to no effect. Samsung whats going on?
My omnia kept going in a loop when I was trying to align the screen after a hard reset. I noticed that the right side of the touch screen was starting to get funny. Anyway, when you align the screen and you get to the last plus sign, try tapping a little off to the right. It worked for me. Took a couple of tries, but it worked.
Guys about the damn Tab shit.just press and hold on the positive sign "+" then it is going to move other location by itself.After it moved then repeat same thing....it'll go away.
It seems to be a bug in the calibration software. To get around it you'll need a registry editor.
Go to HKLM->HARDWARE->DEVICEMAP->TOUCH.
Change the key value for MaxCalError from 7 to a bigger value (for example 20).
Do a soft reset and start a manual re-Align of the screen.
The screen will be calibrated (albeit not so accurate) after 2 iterations. Guaranteed.
thank you sooo much u are a genius GOD has made me find your post thank u again it worked like a dream...first i had tried to upgrade my spb to version 3 (which btw is a waste of time...not nearly good as the v2) and the phone was changed drastically so i did a reset and got tru the alignment screen(with welcome.not) and found that the alignment was off key..after hours of googling i found your post...and now it works like its new...thanks again
Clearly you have too much time on your hands...I have been pressing the "+" sign for an hour and nothing is happening
Should just throw it in the bin and buy a proper phone.
Thanks heaps Trevcoker,
that definitely worked
after three hours farting around with the thing create the welcome not file and thirty seconds later i am back in business
thanks again.
good news and bad news
first your screen is broken secondly you can use the mouse instead
to stop the anoying alignment screen go to notepad and create a file called welcome.not and save it to the removable memory card

turn phone on hey presto
Hi, I had the same problem. Downloaded the registry editor. Tried to modify the registry value from 7 to 14, but I have access denied.... damn what can I do ?

It seems like the touch screen failed to respond to your presses. Try use a stylus / pen to press and hold the +.

I can't get past the darn screen as well. Very frustrating and a huge engineering/QA problem that Samsung didn't catch!

Use the pull out stylus pin and make sure you hit in the center of the cross. Other wise it won't align properly.

0 vote Youe can install for example
Youe can install for example the PHM Registry editor on the Omnia itself.
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Once installed, start the registry editor.
You will see a tree in the top pane (tap to follow to the path indicated):
My Device
+-> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+->HARDWARE
+->DEVICEMAP
+->TOUCH
On the bottom pane, you can now see the MaxCalError
Tap on it to change the value data
(20 may be a bit too high, 14 should do it too)
0 vote You can download the PHM
You can download the PHM registry editor at: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Install and start the program.
HKLM stands for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, one of the top level registry branches.
The other branches are below that one.
The key MaxCalError entry is under the TOUCH branch.
20 is maybe a bit high, 14 will do also.

Actually the link above (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/) installs some other program. This link, http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/index.php?id=3&lang=en, installs CERegEditor which works fine. Use a maxcalerror value of 14 and it fixes the problem! You do have to go to Tools and unlock the registry to change the value.
