I've just bought Samsung i900 and I'm wondering what kind of GPS software can I use with my new phone? Does it work with TomTom 6?
What is the best software for i900?
Hi there,
There are many kind of GPS software that runs on windows mobile OS, which powers the Samsung Omnia. I bet TomTom 6 should run fine on the i900 phone.
Use windows live search then go to center on GPS. The gps signal is directly ontop of me unlike google maps. And it will map out destinations for you as well. Just not voice activated.
I contacted Tom Tom and they told me 100% that their software would not work on the Samsung Omnia... but do I believe them? Not sure!!
I see lots of adverts for the Omnia with Sat Nav pictures on screen. To date noone at Samsung or my provider or any of the UK phone shops can tell me what the screen shot is running... how very very frustrating!
Both Tomtom and Garmin will work on Omnia but only with the help of GPS port splitter software (Google GPSgate or PortSplitter). Both Tomtom 6 and 7 work with this software (despte what Tomtom themselves say!)
Is there any free voice powered software i can download onto my Omnia? I do currently have the internet data bundle off vodafone but i only use it for Sat Nav. I am currently using the google maps that comes already installed on the Omnia but i dont think it speaks. Please help.
you say that ur omnia has google maps pre-installed? i cant find it on my phone...where is it. and im very confused about this GPS stuff, so i have some questions...
1.where/what software do i use?
2. where do i get the software from?
3. does it cost me, and how much?
All Vodafone omnias have google maps pre installed but for some reason theyre hidden. You have to go into tools then your files and make sure you click show ALL hidden files and hey presto you should find em
Tomtom 6 or 7 does work with Samsung Omnia and here is the fix:
1st - Settings:
I use in external GPS settings - program port "COM7" and hardware port "COM9" at 4800. (note: Make sure your TomTom7 configure also follows COM7 port!)
2nd - Reboot
Then I shut off the device completely (complete off), and reboot. Once I reboot.
3Rd - Delete the 'GPSID_log' files
I go to File Explorer --> My Device and I delete the TWO 'GPSID_log' fileS.
[note: the reboot step is absolutely necessary, because if you don't reboot, then it won't allow you to delete one of the 'GPSID_log' file!!!]
4th - Start TomTom7 OUTSIDE (under the clear sky) and within 20 - 30 secs the program catches the satellites (they show up on the configure screen). But not only that - after 1-2 minutes the software actually CONNECTS to the satellites (the satellites turn BLUE) and in the front screen it says - no route planned! Note: You Must Wait Until The Front Screen Says "No Rote Planned" and the map is in color (opposed to black and white) before you start setting your destination, otherwise it will keep on hanging and just showing you the satellites in grey without ever turning into blue.

Thanks for a good and cheap deal on the Tomtom 6 software. The installion instruction was very simple and I had everything up and running in less than 8mins.
Hi,
i am looking to buy this from UK, but was wondering that will there any software for GPS with Indian maps for the phone, as I am an Indian resident, in UK to study only. Thus, it would be appreciated if any one could help me out with this before i buy the phone.
If anybody has loaded the Tomtom sofware available from johnc878 can you please help me with a problem i'm having with it.
I've loaded the software onto my phone but whenever i try and Tap tomtom_nav and then tomtom_today it says that it was unsuccesful the files appear to be empty. Has anybody else had this issue?
I got mine from johnc878@gmail.com and he was very helpful through out my installation process. The fact that I have never used a windows mobile device/pda before because I am not into technology at all, he make sure I got it up and running through emails. I will advice you get in touch with him for help if you still need any help.
Very good deal for the price compared to what I was quoted in the shops and online.
