Samsung Rant I purchased the Rant yesterday and it will not allow transfer of phonebook to my car (Lexus GS-300). When checking trusted devices, other phones give a transfer option, it only recognizes my car as a hands-free, with no transfer option... I checked my car's info options and all list as ...hands-free. It does recognize my old phone's phonebook in the car, but that means whenever I add a new contact, I will have to transfer to my old phone (sanyo), then transfer from that phone to the car. Any fixes you know about?

my rant wont allow the assined ringer or not assined ringer to play when someone calls it just says a you are recieving a call from so and so.

use windows movie maker.
open windows movie maker.
open the audio file you want to use for the contact
then open the photo you want to use for contact
then drag and drop both into timeline.
make sure the are only around 20-25 seconds long. the file must be under 512kb
after you chose you pic/rngr
go to file then publish movie after that just save and save until it say its finish.
now download quick converter from (download.com) open it up after install click the cell phone icon and go to the second option it must be in a .3g2 fomat
open up the movie project you just did and convert it.
connect to your phone and drag and drop that converted file into the dcim and the drag and drop it into the 100'''' file whatever thats called.
disconnect from your phone and go to your album. click on that and assign that file to the contact its made for and now you'll have a custom ringer and phone.

I have had my Rant for a week now and considering sending it back. I have bluetooth enabled so it works with my car radio. Problem is once I leave the car I get a message asking if I want to reconnect. This in itself is not a problem. the problem is unless you answer this question the question does not go away. IF you get a call there is a better then 70% chance if you try answering it the phone will lock up. There is nothing you can do it will just ring until the person hangs up. You can not stop it short of pulling out your battery. My son accidently called me, he who also has a rant. Since the auto screen locking on the rant sucks he did not know the phone had dialed. Since he did not know it dialed he just stay connected. even though I could not pick up. I finally had to pull the battery out since everyone one was looking at me and you could tell they were wondering why doesn't the guy answer his phone.
I then tested this theroy and I would say about 70% of the time if you do not clear this question the next call you get will lock up your phone. I called Samsung and they were useless. In a nut shell they told me I have to answer the question each time and they have no plans to change it so deal with it. THis is a royal pain since I should not ahve to anser a stupid message each time I get out of my car. I'm starting to think maybe my LG rumor was a better phone. I always disconnected and reconnected to my bluetooth car radio with out any inout from me Sprint has no other options to get a qwerty key board so the options are limited. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe if others do and Samsung is called by everyone they will address what should be a simple problem.

that happened to me! and what i did was just keep the battery off the phone for a span of 1-3 days.. i dont know if it will work but it did with mines.

my rant gives me a white screen rather than a blue and i got extremely mad when this happened. when you use your phone push down on the battery. or fold a piece of paper and place it directly on top of the battery, then put the battery case back on.

Mines do the same bt i did nt try dat But will it work so all i need to do is fold a piece of paper into how many times den put the back case back on .But i get really mad cz i do nt knw wt to do .I got a purple rant samsung and it start doing dat for no reason and i have to twist mi charger cz it will nt just go in so i either have to charge it on dah computer and twist it or an outlet and twist it untill the red dot comes on wt should i do?

These phones are the worst thing i could of bought for my kids!! My sons had no ringers or speakerphone ability, my two daughters both their locked up in middle of convo or texting, also turning blue and rebooting self. I do believe these three were from a bad batch which can happen. Now 2.09.10, there are three NEW rants, lets see what happens .. OkOK so two will work as son bought the palm treo850 like me.
If you just bought that rant take it back and tell them to give u another one.

my phone freezes up when i ulock it and when it seems like i really need to make a call. why is this im in my 30 day warranty period and im thinking about returning it for another phone like the blasck berry.

if your rant phone is continuelly freeze,do firmware update by going to Menu>Tools>Phone Update>Update Firmware...then the phone will download new firmware..that takes about 2-3 mins...that should fix freezing issues

if your phone freezes up when you ty to unlock from the blue screen, press the camera button on the side of the phone until it comes up as the list of options for the camera. after that just hit end and you should get the normal screen.

Mine does that...I can press the camera button then it goes to that list...but I try to press end and then *that* screen ends up freezing.

It still recieves texts and calls but you cant go anywhere from that screen other then to the camera application. Occoasionaly the calling # buttons work but it is very laggy...can anyone please help me with this problem??

I have the same problem with my phone after the Sprint people tried to clean under the keypad to fix the # and End buttons. I got the grey/white screen, and after pressing a key on the keyboard the screen went black. When I turned it on, the graphics were distorted (like I was looking at them in a mirror at an angle). I took mine back today and they were able to fix the distortion problem (due to a loose cable), but they're replacing my phone for the white screen issue. Now, my phone restarts whenever I try to access my text messages Try taking it back to Sprint and see what they say.

Turns back on sometimes but i am annoyed so i am going to a back up phone from sprint that has bugs in it as well. Thank you Sprint. All phones are junk and i think it may be the viruses in the computers when people send photos or my pc has a virus thus transfers it to the memory card then the worm slowly makes its way into the phone for total destruction. Just a theory but i had two ic502 and three ic902 phones so my point being is they all have bugs and i am sick and tired of replacing em to find out that nothing ever works like it should.

I too have a rant and regret getting it. In fact the stuck up attitude of Samsung when you call them is really annoying. I have a bluetooth issue but in my efforts to get taht resolved I found the fix for your problems (turns white on the display screen and bars run across horizontally) What happens for some unknown reason the display showing the battery signal strengh etc, which is across the top of the screen will also appear down the side. When this happens at first the only way to recover was remove the battery. However, I found if you hit *, then the back button, then end call (hang up) it will clear the problem. I asked Samsung and they told me all the known issues can be found on their web site for the phone. Funny thing is if you go there it states no problems. Strange how with all the issues posted on the internet about this phone none appear on their web site. Even Sprint will tell you there have been some software issues which were reparied with new software releases. Good luck trying to find it on the Samsung site.

all texts and contacts in the address books deleted themselves... i went into the mass storage memory folder and there is nothing... well, pictures and music were still there but nothing else... anyone have any ideas???

I've just started noticing that most of the time I do not recieve calls or texts until HOURS after their sent time. It pisses my friends & such off because they'll think that I'm just not responding to them, but it's just that I don't get the text messages until hours after. x.x Several of them have told me that they've tried to call me several times in a row, yet my phone will show none. x.x IS this a common problem?

I have the same problem with my phone. I called tech support and they had me do a hard reset of my phone it fixes the problem for a week or so then start having same problem.

mine has had the same problem.
first i was sending text messages and people wouldnt get them.
now i get everyones text messages 10 min - 2 hours after they send them.
like it says the time they sent it.
and everything.
but my phone also has a few other problems.
almost everytime i close it, it shuts off.
the screen will get extra bright even if my phone was dying, then wait a minute or two then vibrate and go back to the home screen. i believe it is turning off then back on. it only happens when i hang up on the phone with someone, or just go to a certain area on my phone. (its different all the time. once it was in my contact list on my friend jessica)
anyone know how to fix this problem ??
and also when it shows the lock page (press * then back to unlock) it freezes sometimes, and ive found that if you press end 3 times it unlocks. but i still dont want to have to do that ALL THE TIME.
please help.

My rant works fine exept the camera. The camera shows up but when I push the capture button it doesn't take it. It just pauses a second. Please help :)

yeah my phone did the same exact thing. it wouldnt take any pictures but then i waited and a week later i guess it decided to start taking pictures again.

I just wanted to say thanks to JoJo my Rant kept freezing up on me when I tried to to anything online with it for either 30 seconds or over a minute. The firmware update did the trick now it's all fix. Thank You..

everytime i type in a word and then try to send it or just press the space button my phone freezes and stays that way for a minute and then the screen lights up bright and it goes back to my regular screen, like i never pressed a button....can anyone help me? or should i just take it back? i havent had it long and it hasnt been dropped or damaged. ...oh and it sometimes freezes when i try to answer a call??

DONT BUY THE RANT piece of shyt this is the third replacement phone still doesn't work right... internet is constantly giving me errors.. phone freezes but i have noticed that if you open the qwerty keypad and dial numbers it usually goes to your contacts and you can get it out of the freeze without takin out the battery... everytime i call sprint its the same deal we will update your phone update data clear cookies clear cache but still doesnt work i wish i could get a new phone everytime they replace it it works for a couple weeks then messes up

When you open to the keyboard, they expect that you're going to message someone you know. It's not hard to understand. Like I twitter from time to time, and I like the fact that when I open the keyboard it allows me to contact the people in order I contacted them last.
Enter your application of choice THEN switch to widescreen/qwerty mode. Being hasten helps little when it comes to "almost smart phone" technologies.

I've had my Samsung Rant for a few months(I know...I like pain). With in the first thirty days, my phone would loose my contact list and kindly prompt me to "sign-up" for wireless back-up. This happened twice and should have been a sign and my conspiracy theory at the time was that this was intentional to get me to pay for additional services. I've just put my contacts back into the phone for the first time in a while and so far...no crashes. My current situation is with Sprint TV. When I select the function, I get a nifty message stating "A handler is needed to use this content type". If I click handler, I get forwarded to Sprints online store (don't figure) with no direction on how to get a handler. My other option is to hit the cancel button and try to find something else wrong with my phone. Good times. Good luck people and do forget your Rant.
