The Samsung Omnia, also known as Samsung SGH-i900, is the upgraded version of Samsung Instinct, which both phones features iPhone-like Touchwhiz technology. The biggest improvement over the Samsung Instinct is the 5-megapixel digital camera with anti-shake technology, enable users to captures high quality pictures for printing.
The Samsung Omnia is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system and a Marvell PXA312 processor at 624 MHz with 256 MB ROM and 128 RAM. It also has 8 GB of internal memory storage. Since the Omnia is powered by Windows OS, the Omnia phone comes preloaded with Windows Applications, such as Microsoft Words, Excel, Powerpoint, and Windows Media.
Like the Samsung Instinct, the Omnia phone also has 3G capabilities, Stereo Bluetooth connectivity, FM Radio, and GPS functionality.

Hi omnia users(Doodle),
I am also facing same problem of the phone locking up. It is happening even if auto lock is not selected. The only way it is not happening is when the On Battery power is selected to "none" instead of "turn off device".
Does any body know how to overcome this problem.
As Doodle said, on this setting it consumes a lot of battery power.

i had the same problem, then i read somewhere that using the 'Samsung Widget' or 'Samsung Today 2' as home screen items cause this problem. it is recomended you change to 'Samsung Today 1' (although i personally dont like it, so i just dont have an item on the today screen) since changing i have not encoutered this problem anymore
go to Menu/Settings/Personal/Today/Items
and use ticky boxes for your selection

Just to let you know after speaking to Orange I tried doing a hard reset and I have had no more problems with it locking up.......
Don't know what it did but Omnia has been working great ever since......Really pleased with it....

im currently doing a project using this phone, and my program is a text to speech communicator program that converts text into sound production by a voice engine.
by pressing X, my program doesnt exit, and my voice engine still resides in the background. if i try to access a different voice engine, for example from a male to female voice, due to the still runnuing of my other voice engine, it will cause an error. therefore in order to make things more user friendly, im trying to find a way to change the X into a close button. always accessing the task manager is very frustrating, and troublesome...

i hear a third party application called 'Magic Button' fixes the X button to actually close programs. i havnt personally tried it though, google it maybe?

i know there is a "silverinbox".exe on the windows folder (Bottomest list) which is great for messaging and added to the today list as default message viewer.

There's a third party program called SPB Pocket Plus that has a drop-down lkist with several different options for the close button. Works beautifully.
It also includes several other nifty add-ons, like Today screen plug-ins, options for your taskbar battery indicator, upgrades to the Pocket Internet Explorer and the File Explorer, and an option to automatically open in Safe Mode if there's been more than one reset in the last three minutes. (Plus a few others.)
I bought SPB Pocket Plus and SPB Phone Suite at the same time. Between the two of them, I get just about every customization I could think of for my Omnia.

As far as the Omnia goes its a good phone but my gripe is with the touch player as in it wont read from my storage where all my tracks and video's are based. Its starting to get frustrating dont get me wrong windows media player is ok where you have the option but still i would like to use the functions that actualy come with the phone.
Anyone who has any tips or knows of a software upgrade it would be appreciated :)

Well i finaly worked out why touch player would not pick up my tracks. Simple the format needs to be mp3 in order for touch to read them so stay away from the pesky WMA and such formats. HUZZA

The solution to your problem is this:
Start
Settings
Connections (tab that is located in the right down of the screen)
USB connected to pc(the one with the usb sign)
You must click the second choice and not ActiveSync which is the Mass Storage and then My Storage which is preselected.
And finally when you are connected to pc you will be able to storage whatever you want.

The only thing that i find annoying with this phone is that the alarm ring do not work when the phone is switched off.

as far as i can tell, the bluetooth name uses whatever name you put in owner information (under Menu/Settings/Personal)

You can close the programs by going Settings>Systen>Task Manager and all the programs that you choose to close you can close by pressing the X Button.

hi guys
love the phone(which iv only had since yesterday)..fairly easy to use..couldn't wait til i got it
only trouble is that it keeps coming up with a message saying 'storage memory is crittically low.....'
and another one saying 'sms will not be recieved unless there is more storage space available'.
it may only be because i dont know how to use it properly just yet but it is supposed to hace 8g of internal memory and all i have one there is photos and a few songs.
can anyone help me to solve this problem? or even to transfer some of the stuff to mass storage?
any help will be appreciated

I had this same problem.
1. Do not save large mp3 files directly to the phone. They take up way too much space. Keep that stuff on the card and use short ring tones (check out http://www.zedge.net)
2. Main Menu >
Programs >
File Explorer (Here you will see a list of temporary saved crap. This must be deleted in order to free up space.) >
Menu > Edit > Select All > Menu > Delete > "Are you sure you want to delete __ items?" YES
If you don't do the above, then temp folder also drains your battery. However, I'm now having battery issues as well after 3 months use. I charge the phone all night and then by midday/afternoon I'm down to one bar so not sure if its the battery or something else.

You have to clear the temporary folder. Do this:
Menu > Programs > File Explorer > Edit > Select All > Menu > Delete > YES
Otherwise can drain the battery too or at least it does to my phone.
I've had my phone since it released and am having battery issues anyway though. Not sure why else it could be.

in case you guys didnt figure this out yet.. you can just store the mp3 files in your storage. create my documents folder/then create my ringtones folder (do both of these in 'my storage') next add your mp3's to this folder. Settings->sounds¬ifications->notifications->your mp3s will be in the drop down menu.

Customising the ringer for SMS seems to be quite a chore, following are a few methods that i have discovered for customising SMS and call ringtones.
method #1: Copy the mp3 or your choice of music file to My Device\My Documents. Any mp3 there could be set as ringtone for SMS, call, etc. Basically any event could be customised with the music file placed here.
method #2: Copy the file to My Storage. You will have to keep the file on the root folder of the16GB storage space. Similar to method 1, any files placed here could be set to any events.
method #3: Place the file in My Device\My Documents\My Ringtones. Files are can be set as caller ringtone only.
method #4: From any folder, just right click on the audio file (tap and hold), select Set As Ringtone. The system will copy the file to the folder mentioned in method 3 and set it as the caller ringtone.
